My mood while writing this blog: No words to describe! |
We went into the hospital at 5:00 pm on June 8th because my discharge had seemed more frequent though we didn't suspect it was the amniotic fluid. Our logic for going in was to make sure that the babies were doing okay. We expected to be sent home because I wasn't really having bad contractions. The night before, on June 7th, I had a lot of contractions, but since they didn't progressively get worse throughout the night and were gone by the morning of June 8th, I didn't suspect it was anything. On June 7th we went walking about 4 or 5 miles (which we did the day before our first daughter was born) in hopes that it would send me into labor. Well, we went in at 5:00 pm and stated my symptoms (contractions and change in discharge). The nurse who delivered our first daughter was there and helped us. She remembered us because our first daughter was born in her sac. Anyway, she monitored the babies heartbeats and my contractions. It turned out that I was having enough contractions to continue monitoring. Both of the babies heartrates were perfect. She then checked to see if I was leaking amniotic fluid and both tests were negative. Then she checked to see how dialated I was. It turned out that I was 4 cm dialated! She said she will admit us because it looked like we would be having our babies that night. Both my husband and I were very surprised. Since she knew my history of a fast delivery and actually experienced it, she called our OBGYN to let him know. He came in and wanted to puncture the membranes, but my husband and I wanted it to happen naturally so we asked him to wait. He respected our decision, but didn't know why we didn't want to break the waters because he didn't want to deliver at a late hour. He didn't suspect that much would have happened with the wait. After, our doctor and some other individuals talked about the risks of the delivery and pretty much made us extremely scared about what could happen and the decisions we had to make. I actually thought twice about whether I should take the epidural or not. I ended up deciding to wait and see how it progressed before making the decision. By 7:00 pm I was 5 cm dialated and by 8:15 I was close to 8 cm dialated. the doctor was yet again surprised with my pregnancy. The pain, surprisingly, didn't feel as bad as it did with our first daughter. At that point they decided to take us to the operating room. The doctor put a little bit of pitocin in me so I could progress slightly faster, even though it was already progressing fast. Then they put a catheter in me to clear my bladder which was full and of course I had to pass poop! :( By about 9:00 pm they punctured Baby A, Mia's sac and found that there was some meconium she had passed. The doctor said it was very little, but it made us nervous. The labor continued to progress fast. They let me decide when I wanted to push (when I got the urge) and it all happened. Baby A, Mia, was delivered at 9:13 pm. After her delivery I could feel the intense pain coming again and I told them I needed to push. My husband was next to me the whole time and very supportive. I started pushing and by 9:17 pm Arianna, Baby B was born. The only issue was that the cord was around her neck so the doctor had to cut it, but there weren't any issues with it. She came out breathing and was just fine. I was so glad we trusted God and didn't take any medicine and didn't need the emergency c-section. THANK GOD! The doctor told me that this was a labor that should be put in a textbook because it was and example of the perfect pregnancy and delivery for twins. Baby A and Baby B had apgar scores of 8 and 9 out of 10 respectively so they were doing perfect. They both weighed 5 lbs 14 oz and were 19.5 inches long. There was one placenta delivered which made us feel they were identical, but they look very different. They are running tests and we will find out in about a month or two what they are. We were able to go to our room with them immediately after and everything was fine. The doctor said that we could be sent home today since it went so well, but we decided to stay for the help and security.
