15-9-2009 - Help, Emma wants to be held all the time okMy mood while writing this blog:
ok

It has been a while since I blogged, but I have been soo busy, I am sure u all know how busy it is when u have a new baby around, esp when u know nothing about a baby and have no family to help out.

Emma is now 10 wks old and she is smiling and cooing alot these days, only thing is- she wants to be held all the time. She naps for 2 30mins period in the day time, other than that, she wants to be held by me or hubby. I have to wait until he comes home from work to hold her, so that i get to shower or cook dinner. She cries constantly if she is not held. She hates her bouncy chair and play pen and her baby gym, she will not play with any toys unless she is with one of us. I tried to let her cry, but she cries so much that she will not breath for 3-5 secs and then she sounds as if she has no voice left, then I started crying after that. I don't know what to do, as no one will want to baby sit her when I have to go back to work. Pls help if u have any suggestions.

Savvy and spoilt miss Emily.

Do you have a baby swing? Or have you tried putting her in a baby sling and carrying her with you throughout the day? That way you can still cook and do some cleaning if you choose. My daughter was like this in the beginning and yes, it's so frustrating because you don't know if they need something or hurt. But, I put her needs first above everything else and a baby sling did help on most days. Also, walking her in her stroller alot helped calm her down too. Nothing like some air for the baby - makes them sleep better too. Good luck!!! xox

I am of the opinion that a baby cannot be spoiled before 4 to 6 months. She's is crying because she needs to be comforted or have needs met. I always wait until my babies are about 3 to 4 months old and then I start putting them to bed to cry and learn to soothe themselves. She may not be capable of soothing herself yet. My Poet has a fussy period every evening where she cries and cries for 4 to 5 hours even if we are holding her. I don't make her try to cry herself to sleep or settle herself yet as she is only 6.5 weeks old. Maybe around 12 to 14 weeks I'll start to put her down and let her fuss for no more than 10 minutes. I hope that Emily calms down for you soon and is ready to settle herself. Keep up the good work Momma!
