| 06-2-2009 - 34 week doctor's visit & baby prep | My mood while writing this blog:calm |
Yesterday I went for my 34 week checkup. It was funny because when I walked into the doctor's office I suddenly got this new sensation that froze me in my tracks. I felt like the baby's head was right between my legs. It was so crazy. Turns out the kiddo has finally found his way to my pelvis and I hope he stays there :-) But now I see how miserable the rib pain is that everyone has been complaining about. I constantly feel like I need to stretch my torso out. Generally though I think I am doing OK. Just mild complaints and lack of sleep. But I think baby is going to get bigger and then will come a new set of things to complain about I'm sure!
At my visit baby is measuring right on track and heartrate is in the 140's normal range. But my blood pressure was high and that's weird for me. I've never had bp issues. So doc asked me to come back in next week for a follow up visit to check bp and keep an eye on it. I hope it's nothing. I chatted to doc about all the newborn procedures they do after birth as well as the pain options for circumcision. I am leaving it up to hubby to make decisions there as he will be more sensitive to what gets done to the tiny penis :-) Hubby will be cutting the cord!
We have not had sex since June (so sad!) Big sacrifice! But doc said that we should go ahead after 36weeks. We'll probably wait till week 37...we have come this far already what's another week or two. Did you all know that there is something in semen that can trigger labor?? And that they use a very similar substance to induce labor? Handy to know if any of you are running overdue. I reckon that there won't be much action for a while after we give birth so better slip some in now....even if I'll be a big gassy elephant by then, ha,ha!
I am determined to pack my hospital bag this weekend...I bought lots of little items to take along and of course the big granny panties for the "aftermath". I got fairly high waisted in case of a C-section. After practicing the breathing techniques at my childbirth classes I can see how quickly my lips and mouth dry out so I stocked up on lipbalm (Blistex Medicated Mint flavor) and found awesome fruit flavored lollipops online...apparently you can choke on hard candies during contractions. Also got giant fabric headbands to keep hair out of my face...guess I'll braid it too so I don't end up looking like a cavewoman!
What else?? Bought the first diapers but only a week's worth, half Huggies and half Pampers to see which ones work best for baby before stocking up. But bought a bulk box of 480 non scented baby wipes (Babiesrus brand) cos heard that you use them up like hotcakes. Our new dryer arrives this Saturday so I'll be washing all the newborn size clothes and bedding, then I can pack for baby too. The nursery is almost done, then I'll post pics. I bought about 3 weeks worth of "easy meals" and stocked the freezer and cabinets. The only thing I don't have for baby is any type of baby meds but will ask our new pediatricain what they suggest. Have our meeting with him on Feb 23rd.
Have put the cats onto a free feeding system with one of those "bistros" so they can become more self reliant. They love it, think it's Christmas! I do supervised visits with them to the nusery to demystify it a bit so they are not obsessed about being in there once baby comes. Have also bought a safety netting dome that goes over the crib to keep them out. Just to keep them from sleeping in the cib while baby is not in it. They will never have access to the baby when he is sleeping in his crib. I can't take a chance that they would get in there and sleep on his face. Some of them like to "snuggle".
I am getting excited because suddenly time seems to be flying!! Even though I have a home based business so am flexible, I am officially shutting down hopefully by Feb 16th so I can focus fully on getting the house ready for baby. I still feel quite disorganised. How are you all doing with getting organised? Any good tips to share?
