28-10-2009 - Swine Flu Prevention Tips happyMy mood while writing this blog:
happy

Just thought I would share these tips with anyone interested in reading...sent to me by a mommy friend (thanks us2girls!)....I am strongly leaning toward not getting the H1N1 vaccine for myself or LO...we both got the regular flu shot. It is just too new and side effects not known. Instead I'll be using the practical precautions below....................:

Subject: Preventing H1N1....................................

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat or bath)

3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. Blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*

5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

Thanks so much for your tips

Michael (and the whole family) was exposed to H1N1 back in May, when my sister had it and didn't know it was the swine flu until her test came back 2 weeks later, when her symptoms were gone and she was feeling much better. He was 2 months old! None of us got sick. Lucky? I don't know, but I'm also not in favor of the vaccine.

The vaccine is DEFINITELY understudied and under tested....that's just an undeniable fact that many professionals will (and have) openly admit(ted). It's been clearly stated that the vaccine is saturated with mercury ~ common sense tells anyone that an injection loaded with mercury is not safe for any baby. Doctors have made countless mistakes in the past, and they have and do distribute things that are later proven to be horribly dangerous. Truth be told, it's really a personal opinion right now. I have heard of some doctors saying it's perfectly safe while other doctors are saying they would never dream of injecting it into a baby at this point. SO....not meaning to sound judgmental in any way....just stating my take on it. I'm not perfect, and maybe I'm doing the wrong thing ~ I put it into God's hands and have faith that we are making the right decision. I'm with you ~ definitely not even considering it until the medical community can get it's head on straight and PROVE that it's 100% safe (probably never gonna happen, so I'm not really planning on ever doing it at this point). Thanks for the tips about prevention, and good luck in your decision! :)

My doctor told me the vaccine does not contain the live virus, and it may "appear new" but is in fact a mix of ALL the "regular" flu vaccines. She said they cannot give you something that is under tested and dangerous. I trust her.

i feel the same way about getting the shot. especially being pregnant. i just feel like its way too new- and there havent been any studies yet, on babies born to mothers who took the shot. when i tell people im not getting it- they look at me like im absolutely crazy. And same goes with my son. I'll get him the regular flu shot... but im still really hesitant on the H1N1! thanks for this, it was alot of help!!! xoxoxohope everything with you and danny is going fantastic! =o) Amber
