07-7-2009 - 1st Ultrasound Baby #2 OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

So I just got home from my ultrasound at the hospital. I'd never been there before, they wanted me in quickly and didn't have an appointment at my OB's office.

The first thing I ask is if she can tilt the screen so we can see - she said NO! And then she followed that up by saying "I'm also not allowed to tell you anything. The Dr here will look at the pictures and create a report, send that to your OB and they will call you to let you know." So she pushes the screen away from me and starts. I was ready to cry!!!

The external scan didn't show too much, she got good pics of my uterus and overies (one looked 'deflated', but that's a whole other issue to deal with at another time) and then we moved on to the internal. I told hubby he needed to hold my leg (really I just wanted him to be able to see... lol). So hubby and I didn't talk much and all I could see were screens flicking her the tech's eyes. I felt like I could see enough to see a pocket of fluid so I said. "I'm feeling good about this... it looks good too, right?" That darn tech replied "I'm sorry, I really can't tell you anything or let you see." GRRRRRR... soo hubby gives me a thumbs up sign!

When we left (I was so frustrated at this point) hubby said he could see the baby, he thought the fluid looked like a foot shape, lol. He saw tiny arm and leg buds and he saw the heart beating!!! He said when she measured it out, it was 120 bpm! We had to wait for my OB to call, they said they did find some hemmoraging, so not to be too concerned if I keep bleeding/spotting, as long as it's not BRIGHT RED and GUSHING!!! She said the baby looked good, heartbeat was 120 and was measuring 6w5d, which is 1 day off, but really, right on! My hubby is such a good spy, he told me more details and I'm so relieved he was able to leave work to come with me.

My first appointment is 2 weeks from today and I'm really hoping they'll still let me have the 9-12 week ultrasound, because I want to see my peanut. Yes, it's selfish. Yes, I am grateful to be pregnant again, and I recognize there are women who wish they could be in my shoes, even with some bleeding issues. I am certainly not taking that for granted. Thank you ladies for your support and encouragement! I think I'll still have my moments of nervousness and worry, but, right now, I'm just glad our peanut has a heartbeat, and is looking well!!! I do feel like it's another miracle.

lil - lol! I've been around the healthcare system enough in the past 3 years to know better. That certainly wouldn't have helped, so it wasn't worth letting myself get that worked up about it! I'm just going to really push to get the regular 9-12 week ultrasound.

What a rude tech!! I soooo would have kept ragging about how she apparently isnt very experienced if she can't show you the baby, perhaps she doesnt know what she is even looking at, maybe she should find another job, lol. I would have had her in tears or just so mad she would show me the screen to shut me up. Hubby did a good job for ya' though. I am glad all is fine with you and baby!

What great news!!! I sort of feel sorry for the techs when there is something bad happening. I have never had one that wouldn't let us look at the screen, and I had a lot of ultrasounds!! but I am thrilled that you got good news.
