21-12-2008 - IS IT JUST ME? GUILTYMy mood while writing this blog:
GUILTY

IS IT JUST ME? BEFORE I WAS PREGNANT, I WAS VERY HEALTH CONSCIOUS, I WAS A VEGETARIAN THEN GREW UP AND BECAME VEGAN, WHICH JUST MEANS I DONT EAT ANY ANIMAL PRODUCTS, IT GOES VERY DEEP FOR ME, BUT I NEED NOT GET INTO THAT AND BORE EVERYONE, SO ANYWAYS, ABOUT 12 WEEKS INTO MY PREGNANCY, I STARTED TO CRAVE PIZZA..PIZZA TO ME IS LIKE COMPLETE POISON, BUT I GAVE IN AND ATE IT, THATS HOW STRONG THE CRAVING WAS, I FELT SO GUILTY AND ABSTAINED FROM ANY DAIRY CRAVING AFTER THAT, THEN I COULD'NT DENY MY CRAVINGS AFTER THAT, I HAVE BEEN EATING CHESSE LIKE EVERYDAY, AND FISH HERE AND THERE...I DONT FEEL GOOD AFTERWARDS I FEEL HORRIBLE, I FEEL LIKE WHY WOULD I PROTECT MY BODY SO MUCH BEFORE I WAS PREGNANT AND NOW THAT IM PREGNANT THATS ALL OUT THE WINDOW, IM VERY AWARE OF ALL THE ILL EFFECTS COW BREASTMILK HAS ON THE HUMAN BODY BUT AGAIN THESE F*IN CRAVINGS ARE TAKING OVER. DO ANY OF YOU LADIES DO OR EAT THINGS YOU WOULD NEVER EVER EAT PRIOR TO BEING PREGNANT? WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY DAUGHTER I DIDNT EAT MEAT BUT ATE CHEESE SO I DIDNT HAVE THIS GUILT THING, SHOULD I FIGHT MY CRAVINGS SO IM NOT SO HARD ON MYSELF? HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE LOL

Hi there...I'm not vegan or vegitarian in any way, but I do have cravings. I feel like nothing will satisfy but one certain food, then I'll get over it and not want it at all.

I do believe that being pregnant your body has needs for higher amounts of certain nutrients. It may sound gross to you, but I was craving red meat...turns out I was super low on Iron. I'm taking a supplement now and it's not so bad.

Hang in there, who knows what fun craziness our bodies have in store for us!

It is definately not just you! :) Even knowing so much about health and what goes into dairy and meat, my brain just goes on standby and the cravings take over. It's unbelievable. I've managed to stay away from cheese (barely) but the chocolate cravings are ridiculous. And I feel like crap after eating anything greasy or chocolately, but I do it anyway! The only thing that keeps me from going crazy with guilt is knowing that most people eat dairy and meat without restraint, and they have ok pregnancies. And you know we'll be back on the vegan bandwagon as soon as these babies are out!

I'm exactly the same. I refuse to eat turkey for ethical reasons, because there's so much horror in their processing plants....yet, for the last two months, it's all I've wanted. I'm sure part of that is psychological, with Thanksgiving and now Christmas coming up, but it's REALLY hard to refuse these cravings.....I just hate knowing what I'm putting into my mouth is going into my little girl. :(

I went complete vegan last year after going through cancer and treatment. I went to a health retreat and decided it was the best thing for me. I was vegetarian before, but still had a problem with putting dairy down. A few months after the health retreat I was pregnant, then I started picking up dairy again, mainly yogurt and cheese. I think we crave what our body needs when we are pregnant, however it is also what our taste buds are accustomed to. You can get plenty of calcium through plant products. I like broccoli, but the gas was horrible and I haven't touched it since. I wouldn't feel guilty, I think our cravings will go away and we can get back on track with eating healthy.
