Friday, 3 Apr Augustin sleeps with us and I side-lie BF through the night. I rarely wake up all the way. We've been doing this since he was about 4 weeks old and was too big for his bassinette. It's the only thing that assures me sleep. The risk of SIDS is also much lower for kiddos sleeping with mom and "overlying" most often happens when parents are obese or intoxicated (which you probably shouldn't be if you're BFing anyway...). He's been sleeping through the night since we started doing this and neither of us wakes up all the way when he turns to latch on. In the beginning, of course, I needed to wake up to latch him on. But now he's like a heat-seeking missile! I sleep with the covers up to the bottom of the "ladies" and my shirt up over them (I need sleeves: we live in Wisconsin and it's so chilly). With the covers at that height I'm not worried about them going over his face. Good luck! And if you're worried about your skills w/ nap nursing, try them out on the living room floor, nursing while you sleep, and have DH sit on the couch (hmm. video game time!) and keep an eye on you guys. After a while, you'll be confident in your ability! Have fun, and so great that you're BFing! larkspur69 -

Wednesday, 25 Mar I am afraid to lie down and BF until Miranda is older andcan move her own head....I do fall asleep BF'ing her almost every night tho.....sitting!! I have a recliner in the living room, and the breast feeding cushion....but to preserve ANY integrity in my neck...I use a great buckwheat filled neck/travel cushion....That way, my head and body roll away from her....but she is still snuggled in the boomerang shaped jollyjumper BF cushion. Zzzzzzzzzz good luck oregonhawaiigirl -
Wednesday, 25 Mar my baby girl sleeps all the time too. Its wierd, I am not a first time mom, but I forgot about that. As far as falling asleep while BFing, there is no cure except sitting up to do it. Good luck! 1Byfaith -
Wednesday, 25 Mar I know what you mean. I am 21 weeks pregnant now, but when I was bf my son I would bf him in bed but I always tried to stay awake. I am heavy chested and I was terrified of suffocating him. I have heard of women that fall asleep all the time while bf'ing in bed but I just assumed that they had smaller boobs. If this has scared you, I would suggest trying to stay awake while bf'ing or maybe finding a different position. For me, even when I would bf while sitting in a chair, I had to put my finger in there to hold the extra flesh from covering my sons face. So bf while sleeping was not an option for me. Good luck!! Enjoy your new baby. BBYNMBR1 -
Wednesday, 25 Mar Well as far as me falling asleep while breastfeeding that's not happened yet but I will keep that in mind NOT to do that! But my son is NEVER awake it seems like I was at the doc yesterday and on their tv it said babies sleep 18 hrs a day and are awake 6 hours and I'm thinking well NOT MY child he is probably awake like an hour & a half maybe!
