29-3-2009 - UMBILICAL CORD SCARE

My mood while writing this blog: RELIEVED

SO I WAS GIVING MY SON A BATH AND WHEN I TOOK OFF HIS DIAPER THERE WAS SOME BROWN YELLOW STUFF ON THE TOP OF HIS DIAPER..SO THE ONLY PLACE THAT COULD COME FROM WAS HIS UMBILICAL CORD, SO I MOVED HIS STUMP AND YOU COULD SEE UNDERNEATH OF IT AND THERE WAS A BUNCH OF GUNK (YELLOWISH) I FREAKED OUT, GOT ON THE INTERNET AND IT SAID IT COULD BE AN INFECTION, BUT INFECTION IN AMERICAN IS VERY UNCOMMON AND THAT THE BABY WOULD HAVE TO BE HOSPITILZIED FOR 2 WEEKS AND THAT A COMMON SYMPTOM IS OOZING, SO I CONTINUED TO READ REAL STORIES FROM MOMS AND FIND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE WENT THROUGH, ANYWAY I CALLED MY PEDIATRICIAN, AND HE SAID ITS "GRANULATION TISSUE" JUST CLEAN IT AND KEEP IT DRY "PHEWWWWWWWWW" WHAT A RELIEF OMG I WAS SO SCARED LOL

Girl I know from experience that the internet will drive you crazy!!!lol there's nothing better than speaking to your pediatrician before going through all that so next time I'd just go that route..take care n glad to know all is well :) can't wait till my lil booger is here healthy n happy

Stinky too I'll bet! Miranda's fell off on day 7! It looked oozy and raw...I called my midwife who basically said if the area around the button wasn't red or swollen...it was normal. Eww! It scabbed over again...and then that scab has fallen off now too....starting to look like a normal cute lil button now!

Weird! Logan had the same thing- it was all creepy and yellow. I totally freaked- but he didn't seem to have any pain or anything, and it didn't smell bad, so I decided to clean it really well, and keep an eye on it for a day and it cleared up. If I'd gone online I'd have really freaked myself out!

I hear you! I would have been worried too. I'm glad he's okay. Maaaan, the worrying will never end, ever again, will it? We will always worry about them!
