26-2-2009 - any advice?? concernedMy mood while writing this blog:
concerned

I was wondering if anyone else is having any problems with their newborn having diarrhea? The past 2 days he has had like 6 bowel movements a day and all very loose and watery and he seems to have a lot of gas and pain after his feedings---especially at night. He has been spitting up a tiny bit--but nothing really bad. I am getting NO sleep now--last night I got 2 hours. I expect to be up all night with him since he is so new( this is my 3rd baby ) , but I am concerned that maybe I need to switch formula. I called the Dr.s office yesterday and they said as long as he was drinking good ( he is ) and there is no blood or mucus in his stool --and he is not running a fever that he is probably ok. This is worrying me though and it seems that I should not have to give him gas drops after every feeding...I am going to call the Dr.s office again in the morning-- I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I never had any trouble with my first 2 little guys so this is a new thing for me:( I feel stupid that I cannot tell what the problem is ---you would think by the third baby I would know all the answers...so much for that theory. I just want my little guy to feel good and have normal poops again and no pain!! Any advice anyone has I would love to hear!! I hope everyone else is doing well and staying healthy !!! Enjoy your beautiful babies too:) Thanks, Tanya~ ps--He is now drinking Enfamil Lipil

Is he better now?

I heard of the Gripe Water, I think I will try that too....I am having the exact same problem.... it is driving me nuts, because I hate to see him in so much pain. I tried to switch his milk to similac sensitive- for gassy and fussy babies but, he still is in pain but not as much as before.....I think figuring out a milk that they can digest is the only option along with the Gripe water, gas drops and lots of TLC!!

Tanya - use Enfimil GentleEase. It has less amounts of lactose. I am mostly breastfeeding but have been supplementing since Jonathan was in the hospital. The Enfimil Lipil was too much and the gas was so painful for JD, it would wake him up from sleep and he would scream. The GentleEase has been MUCH better. Try one can of that, see how it goes. If it's still affecting him through gas and/or diarriah, there are several other Enfimil formulas with even less lactose. If that still doesn't help, he may need soy. Let me know if any of that helps!

My Allyson was born 3 weeks ago, at first she went a lot, then it slowed, her dr told me that it takes a little while for things to be normal for babies. She is breast feed and has to have a bottle after every feeding, they found out she needed sensitive formal, maybe you might want to ask your dr if that would help your baby.

BF'd babies have much runnier poop. Ashley had bad gas I ahd to give her gas drops every time I fed her. She would gulp down the milk. Remember they your baby is on a liquid diet it is going to come out liquid.

i dont know..maybe you do need to switch formula. I agree though, i would be worried as well. I tell ya, i have 4 kids and it doesnt make me an expert..lol I have dealt with many different things with seth that i never had to with my girls. that even started when i was pregnant with him, i experienced everything that goes along with pregnancy just with him! it was like i was pregnant for the first time..anyhow, i hope the docs can give you better answers and help you out. i wish i could give you an answer but i dont know. good luck :)

It could be allergies. Maybe the milk products or soy that you are consuming. It is normal of course for baby to have loose bms several times a day. Felicity had it up her back every morning she ruined so many outfits. They said it was normal but as soon as I put her on special formula they went back to bring normal. Ethans started when I put him on special formula but that was a common side effect of the formula. And all 3 of them had belly pain. I tried gas drops holding them certain ways anything and everything but it did not work. It was all due to food allergy. If you give formula it contains milk and soy unless you get one that don't contain them. I hope it helps and he gets better.

We are in the exact same boat--I'm breastfeeding though--but Adistyn is gassy and fussy after every feeding...I think the watery stools are normal..should be a mustard color. I used to only get up 2 times and now I'm up all the time...we have found something that's been giving her a more peaceful sleep....Little Nose's Gripe Water...found it at babies r us and it's helping!
Never had this problem w/the other 2 either. I never even used gas drops before. What's with our 3rd babies????
Hope I've helped a little :)
