| 04-12-2009 - The demon shows his head | My mood while writing this blog:in pain |
Sorry if this grosses anyone out. But i got a hemrrhoid a few days ago. I didnt know exactly what to expect, i just knew that the feeling could be compared to a day in purgatory on a good day. My sister was subjected to this hell during her pregnancy and was pretty much house-bound for 4 months and lived in the bath tub to try and relieve the pain and itching (she needed surgery after the birth which was a whole new hell unto itself). I have increased my fibre intake to avoid it but no matter what i eat, i still get constipated regularly. No amount of fruit/veg/cereals etc and even prunes will make the daily trip to the bathroom a simple and pleasant one if my butt is in the mood to rebel. So i finally decided enough was enough and tried to take control by forcing out a bowel movement. MISTAKE! NEVER EVER try and do this especially in pregnancy. If it doesnt want to come, dont push, dont even sit trying to tease it out (i had given this advice before - why didnt i follow?!!)! Just get up and wait until it wants to leave of it's own accord! Result was after an only mildly successful session, i realised i had managed to push out a hemrrhoid with it. Seriously disgusting. i tried to distance myself from my butt cos i was so grossed out but how do you do that?! was an awkward night with no sleep as all i could think was what my sister went through and what have i done. The next morning it was gone, but now shows its face every night and the shooting pains are horrible. Thankfully they only come for a few seconds and are random, but it feels like someone is shoving a sharp metal spike up my butt repeatedly. Seriously painful. The doctor told me to eat even more fruit and veg/fibre and then gave me lactulose (laxatives suitable in pregnancy) and told me to pretty much live on this for the rest of my pregnancy as any constipation will just make the hemrrhoid get worse until it either becomes permanently protruded and very painful (which can result in early labour amongst other things) or may require surgery (last resort). I am stil at early days but if my advice can help someone else AVOID getting one, then this blog was worth writing. Having the doctors finger in my bum has already stripped me of my dignity this week so the shame of admitting this is nothing in comparison!!
