Mardi Gras Baby Shower
It turns out that I was worried for nothing. The baby shower was a huge success! I was so relieved. I invited 40 people and 30 showed up. So, we had a really good turn out. The theme turned out to be really cute and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Ladies were chatting up a storm while sipping on wine, and home made sangria. Yes.... They did have tea and punch for those not drinking. Needless to say, they had a lot of tea left over!
I had his baby ultra sound pictures framed and displayed for all to see. Plus, I brought over my pregnancy scrapbook that I had been compiling since we discovered that I was pregnant. It contains, sonogram pictures, belly pictures and much much more. My guests were able to see my ever expanding stomach!
They served crab dip, chilled shrimp with coctail sauce, hot artichoke dip, a veggie tray, and a fresh fruit tray for an appetizer. Then we played one baby game. Everyone was to bring a baby photo of themselves. So, as people entered the front door, I greeted them and collected their baby pictures. I wrote their names on a sticky note and attached it to the back of their pictures. Then my hostesses collected them all and put them up on a display board. They numbered each picture and had a slips for everyone to guess a person with a baby picture. It was really fun and a great idea. Because, it allowed everyone to meet each other. There were lots of baby pictures and it was cute to see them all. My hostesses provided gifts to the two ladies who guessed the most number right. They also gave a gift to the person who got none right. Kind of a last place gift.
After the game, then we moved on to lunch. They prepared a seafood boil. Complete with shrimp, potatoes, corn on the cob, mushrooms, and two different types of sausages. There were very little left overs! So, I suppose that everyone liked the food. While everyone was eating me and hubby started opening our gifts. Then we had cake, brownies and traditional shower punch minus the ice cream stuff.
We received so many cute baby things. Tons of clothes! Our baby is going to be well dressed that is for sure! Plus, lots of other things that I didn't even know they made for babies. My favorites were a homemade quilt. A quilt rack that my neighbor made from bare wood in his workshop. A homemade tooth fairy pillow with his initials monogrammed on it, and burp clothes with his monogramed name. Which we finally agreed on would be Grant. Also, a knee mat for mommy when your giving the baby a bath in the bath tub, and wee wee blocker! Okay... So, it's just what it sounds like. It looks like a sports cup. You put if over the baby's wee wee, so that he doesn't pee all over you and the walls! What a great invention!
We loaded everything up and went home, which happens to be right next door. But, we still needed to bring the car over to load up all of our baby goodies. We dropped everything in the baby's room. We were too exhausted to go thru everything and put things away. I thanked everyone and got a little choked up in the thank you! YES>>> you guessed it hormones!
I had a doctor's appointment today. The doctor checked me and performed the Group B test. It's to check for harmful bacteria. He also checked my cervix. It is completely closed and I am not dialated. I will start seeing the doc weekly now and he said he would check my cervix every time.
We'll the hubby and I are headed out to do a hospital tour now. I hope that all of you are hanging in there! We really are in the most uncomfortable stage right now. I hope to post some pictures soon. Baby dust to you all!
