| 14-9-2009 - Life at home | My mood while writing this blog:relaxed in bed |
We arrived home from the hospital on Tuesday evening. Me and the hubby were both exhausted and could barely keep our eyes open. My neighbor and best friend had a huge surprise for us when we arrived at the house. She had made a welcome sign for Grant in the yard that contained his birth stats and name. She decorated the inside of our house, with a It's a boy sign hanging on the mantle. Also, had bowl with nothing but blue candy in it. Also, another one with chocolates that were in the shape of footballs and basketballs. The decorations were awesome. She had prepared dinner for us too. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and gravy. She also had a welcome home Grant cake in the frig. I have the best neighbor on the planet.....Now to our home life.
We'll, life at home has been hectic. I am sure that everyone who has ever had a newborn can say that. My hubby took the week off and stayed home to help me care for Grant. He has been a lifesaver. I am truly thankful to have had his help.Grant is not latching on properly, so I have been pumping. It has been a complete strain on me and the home life to pump every 2-3 hours. Getting up in the middle of the night is a pain in the ass and has been kicking my ass!! but I have been doing it. Just for the sake of my little one. Milk production is painfully low. Only 1 1/2 to 2 ounces during a 15 minute pump session. So, one session is not enough for one feeding. The hubby and I decided that it was in our best interest to discontinue pumping. So, I loaded up the rented breast pump and my mom is going to return it for me today. Speaking of my mom, she arrived yesterday, (Sunday afternoon). She brough a large pan of home made spaghetti for the family for dinner. It was such a nice treat not having to cook. I made a salad and also had bread sticks. My mom will be spending a few days with me to help. Also, because she is so happy to have her first grandchild. She has been dying to spend time with Grant and has had her bag packed for a week, just waiting for me to call her when I needed help. Yes.... She has been super anxious to help out. But, since the hubby took off all week, it wasn't necessary for her to come last week.
Grant had his first appointment with his pediatrician on Friday. He was 20 inches long and 8 lbs 4 oz at birth. Leaving the hospital he was 7 lbs, 13 ounces. Our pediatrian was totally shocked because Grant was already back up to his birth weight of 8 lbs, 4 oz. He measured him at 20 1/2 inches long, so they must have mis measured him in the hospital. Anyway, he was like, wow...How did you get his birth weight up???? He said that most new borns take 2 weeks to get back up to birth weight. But,,, our little one has been eating like a little piggy. He is taking 3-4 ounces at a feeding. He is also sleeping very long. We put him to bed last night at 11, and he slept thru the night and didn't wake up till 5:15 for a diaper change and feeding. He went right back to sleep and has been asleep ever since, and it's 8:45 now.... Wow... it's late, I better get cracking.... Thanks again for all your comments. Sorry it took me so long to respond. Congrats to all who had their babies. I am happy for you all. More to come later.
