| 09-7-2009 - My Son Only Takes 30 Minute Naps...Advice Needed! | My mood while writing this blog:Frustrated/Stressed |
My son sleeps really well through out the night im sure its because he sleeps very little through out the day. Yea I know some would trade my situation for theirs, right?!?! My problem is that he is very cranky through out the day and I know it's because of the lack of daytime sleep. By the way he is a day shy of being 12 weeks.
Here's how it goes:
The only way he will go to sleep or nap is if he has a bottle...he's unable to fall asleep on his own. Regardless if he had a full bottle thirty minutes prior he will still have 1-2 ounces more just so he can fall asleep. And alot of times he fusses for his paci.
He goes to bed around 7:45-8:15pm
Wakes for 4 ounce bottle at 2am
Right back to sleep til 7:00-7:30am
Has full bottle around 8am
1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes later he goes down for nap (with 2 ounce bottle of course)
He typically only naps for 30-40 minutes
Next nap around noon...again only 30-40 minutes (small bottle to go to sleep...u get the point)
Then about another 2 to 3 naps (lasting 30 minutes to the T)
Once and a GREAT while I can get a 2.25-2.5 hour nap out of him (either the first nap of the day or second). I know his napping routine isn't normal. He should be able to sleep more then 30 minutes at a time. I have read that he should be having a long morning nap lasting anywhere from 1.5-3 hours and he should be getting 5 hours of daytime sleep and 10 hours of nightime sleep. It also suggest that no bottle to fall asleep and no paci. Ok fine but how do I get him to go back to sleep once he wakes after his short 30 minute nap. I always go right to him when he awakens and he's bright eyed. I don't know but im at my witts end and it's really becoming quiet stressful to me. So do I just let him cry and see if he will go back to sleep (which I don't have much faith that he will)? What do I do? What works for you? I know im gonna hear all babies are different but I know for a fact he should have a consistant napping routine with that long morning nap. By the way he is swaddled.
I will try anything at this point so please feel free to advise. Thanks for your time.
Marissa.
