| 09-7-2009 - Ok I\'ve Got A Plan To Hopefully Fix My Son\'s Napping Dilema | My mood while writing this blog:Stressed But Hopeful |
Ok so i've read bits and pieces of Kim Wests Book--Good Night, Sleep Tight. The method she teaches is a gentle way of helping your child go to sleep, stay alseep, and wake up happy. She suggest that you teach your baby to fall asleep and soothe them selves on their own...so no bottles or boob to fall asleep to, no rocking unless baby is hysterical. No paci only to calm them not to fall asleep with. She suggest that you stay with your baby the first few days while you try teaching them to fall asleep on their own then a few days after that you move further from the crib and few days after that you stay at the door then eventually you will be able to just put baby down and leave the room completely and immediatly. And if baby awakens earlier from nap then he should baby should be able to soothe himself back to sleep. Does this make sense...I tend not to explain things well.
Here's my plan:
Put baby down drowsy not asleep (so no bottle to fall asleep to). I will shhhhh him to sleep gently stroking his face.
I will give him the paci to help him fall asleep but only the first few days.
If he awakens within an hour I will try and give him paci immediatly then allow him to cry for about 10 minutes with hopes that he will fall back asleep on his own.
**Ok so two naps i've been somewhat succesful. He took 7 minutes to fall asleep the first time and 5 minutes the next nap..yes he cried like crazy but atleast he fell asleep with out his bottle.
