14-3-2010 - Birth Story & New Pics in Photos

My mood while writing this blog:
Exhausted

Well it's been a long week. A week ago today I went to hospital for my scheduled c-section. They told me to arrive at ten am. I did. They told me I had a long wait ahead of me as I was last on the list. Great. I did get my own room though which was v nice. The following hours were filled with fun things like showering, putting in catheters and canular and taking blood tests. Eventually around 3.30pm we were told it wouldn't be much longer and by 4.15pm they had come to wheel me into surgery. The surgery went fine. I had a spinal this time instead of the epidural and I felt no pain but I could feel a lot more of what they were doing this time. Our little girl was born at 5.22pm and was perfectly quiet and serene. This started a baby name discussion because we didn't actually have her name chosen yet. My husband wanted Serenity which is not only very unusual but my mother said it's actually an older ladies name. I wasn't sold on that at all and there were only two names we hadn't thrown out Heidi and Brooklyn. We ended up buying a baby name book and both sets of parents and ourselves tossed names around for a couple of hours only to discover Heidi had a few meanings. 'Of noble kin' 'serene' and 'having good humour' and this settled it for us. It's such a cute name. So then we had Heidi Elizabeth Shona named and it was much nicer then because the nurses finally stopped asking 'so does she have a name yet?' lol. The days following my surgery were hard. I found out I was surviving post op on nothing more than some paracetemol and brufen and was in a lot of pain. I ended up getting a prescription for some stronger medicine before I left and I've been coping pretty well since being home. Heidi is breastfeeding which is fantastic because I couldn't breastfeed my son. :-( She is very quiet and basically doesn't cry much at all. Just a little whinge if she gets hungry. She was 7lb04oz which seems so much smaller than Slade who was 8lb14oz. A lot of people say she looks like me. I think time will tell. At the moment she has dark brown hair and eyes that look like they will probably turn brown soon. :) She's a little treasure and we're having a lot of fun with her. xo

Congrats girl! I'm so happy for you. Hope you recover soon. Enjoy Heidi! I tried to find you on facebook, guess you deleted it. Glad you updated on here. What did Slade do when he first saw her? Take care!
