19-11-2008 - High Risk Dr. Visit

My mood while writing this blog:

I saw the High Risk Dr today for the Gestational Diabetes and he wasn't too upset with me. My numbers have been high but not terribly high so he is starting me on a low dosage oral medication. He said he completely understands how hard it is to diet and that he can't stick to one either but this low dosage of meds should help my numbers stay normal and my baby should be fine. I have to go to the Dr. twice a week to have a non-stress test done, which that's ok with me but the only bad thing is...it's a 45 minute drive (1 way). Today is probably the longest Ultrasound I've ever had...but I guess that's what happens with the high risk Dr's they are more concerned than just normal pregnancies so they take their time and do things very thuroughly. It was awesome their equipment was much more high tech too. She stayed on his heart for a long time moving the ultrasound thingy around looking at different angles...she finally said don't worry I've only been on his heart this long because it was the clearest she had ever seen one. She said she could see all of his heart very clearly including the chambers and valves. I could even make out most of it and I don't even know what all it should look like. It was cool. She said his kidney's were very slightly inlarged but when Dr come in he said they were fine. They estimated his weight at 3 pounds 9 ounces which should be 30 weeks and 6 days and I'm 30 weeks and 3 days so they said he is right on target. (They say my due date is Jan 25th...but I say the 27th because that is when 40 weeks is up) They hooked me up to a NST today and checked his heart beat with his movements and my contractions...they only measured up to 16 which at that point just felt like mild menstrual cramps. I'm not sure how high that number gets in real labor but I'm sure it is much much higher than that. I've been having contractions like that from like 10 weeks on. Anyway to sum it up...everything looks good and they will be keeping an eye on me for the next 9 1/2 weeks.
