08-12-2008 - Help...need to explain BF to older child.

My mood while writing this blog:

Ok, my son is 8 years old and has asked a few questions about how the baby comes out of the belly. Well he has seen a few of the Health Channel C-sections and thinks that's how but I think he also knows I didn't have my tummy cut so again he's still a little confused and so my mom just told him God puts them here. LOL She says that is more than he needs to know at his age. Well now it comes down to breast feeding....that is not something I can just leave alone I have to explain it some how and I just don't know how. How could an 8 year old possibly understand boobs are where the milk comes from, ROFL!! I know if I had been 8 and my mom had any more children I would have been like GROSS!!! Letting a baby suck on your titties is just not right..LOL I can't imagine understanding that at 8. They know so much at that age yet they don't know that much.

I already told my 2 yr old boy that milk comes from my kickews (some strange name we have for boobs) to feed the baby. It's not for big boys, just babies. He was asking me why my belly and boobs were so big. He also thinks the baby will come out of my belly button. I'll let him have that one. He doesn't need to know everything! But your son probably doesn't associate boobs with anything sexual just yet so if you explain that's why women have "mammory glands" and men don't, he'll get it.

Show him a picture of other mammals that breast feed like cows and cats and dogs. Our dog had puppies 2 years ago when my daughter was 6 and she quickly learned from that experience that babies drink milk from their mommys.
