| 01-5-2008 - 4/13/2008: From beginning to End! | My mood while writing this blog:Determined!!! |
Where to start....Well, I decided to write a new blog for a few reasons....To get some things off my chest and to get some advice from those who might have been in my situation. Here goes. I have been thinking about the experience I had while I was in labour with my first son and to be honest....As much as I wouldnt trade it for anything, I am quite dissapointed with the way it went down. I was in a highly populated hospital to start, and all the staff was very rude to me almost the entire time I was in there. One nurse forgot about me when I was dehydrated, and then my doctor was 1 hour late for me to go into labor. This all upset me then but I was just glad my son was ok. (im paranoid haha). Anyways, Thinking back on that horrible experience I realize something...I am pretty sure I DO NOT want to be pushed around this time while Im in labor. Nor forgot about none the less. I felt like the whole 19 HOURS i was in labor everyone was telling me to do this and do that and dont lay like this and roll over here! I felt....bullied through my labor so to speak. Every time I would get comfortable, a NOT SO NICE nurse would come in and poke & prod me until i was uncomfortable again. And on top of that, it was a different nurse every time. Sometimes it was even a male nurse whom IVE NEVER MET BEFORE! I have a male doctor now and im comfortable with it because im getting to know him, so its ok. But for a bunch of different people to come in and "check me" the whole time was very traumatizing.
So thinking about my past experience Im thinking I have to set some ground rules. I did some research about many different women and how they all had different types of births. Some did it at home with NO medical assistance (freebirthing) and some had midwifes and most of them had hospital births. Getting some ideas from each of these womens' experiences I've decided to go ahead with trying another hospital birth but like I said...Ground rules....When I check in I obviously will let them do what they usually would the first time but after that I would like to be left alone until 1) my doctor arrives and 2) I feel it necessary to have someone come in. Women give birth at home with No Medical Professionals present ALL THE TIME and they turn out just fine. Think about it...Women have been giving birth since the stone age, if they managed to survive I think I can muddle through it. This is not to say that women who prefer different settings are wrong at all, this is just my preference. Your body knows what to do during labor, its NATURAL. Its proven that the reason have trouble with labor (sometimes) is because their are a bunch of people around making them uncomfortable thus decreasing the levels of hormomes your body produces while you are in labor therefor making it difficult for your body to prepare itself for the birth process. I strongly agree with this due to personal experience.
So, at my next doctors appointment I am going to firmly let my doctor know that until it is necessary I DO NOT want a bunch of random people coming into my room handling me like a rag doll. Am I wrong in this decision, I think I might be on to something!
