| 03-8-2009 - I Stopped Breastfeeding my baby.. | My mood while writing this blog:kinda sad |
I stopped nursing my son. He turned 15 months old on July 18th and that was the last time he suckled. It wasn’t because I wanted to stop, but because everyone else thought that I should. Even my husband was ready for me to quit breastfeeding and was embarrassed for people to know I was still doing it. I didn’t care what other people thought, but when he asked me to wrap it up … he was concerned that he would be 8 years old walking up to me and taking a boob into his mouth. I had to do what was asked of me. Yeah, I would have liked to have continued until he was ready to stop or until I was finally done with doing it myself. I definitely would have stopped by the time he was 2 years old. Now we will never know if he would have weaned himself or not. . . . . . . . . . . .
It has been a little over 2 weeks now and I am recovering. I have been sad and my little guy was showing his little butt in ways I had not seen from him before yanking the breast from his routine. He was very easily frustrated and started slapping, biting, and even banging his head when I refuse to let him raise my shirt in search of what he knew was there but I told him was “all gone“. . . . . . . . . . Looking back - - - it wasn't too bad and didn't last very long at all. He got over it really quick actually.
It is getting better as time goes by. The first 7-8 days were pretty bad. I can see many improvements now that more time has passed. . . . . . .
I did wean him from the breast to a bottle, because I know it is as much for comfort as it is for nourishment. He gets one bottle per day first thing in the morning a full 8 ounce bottle of whole milk with strawberry syrup added (he doesn't do very well without the syrup) and warmed up to a good temperature I would say 90-100 degrees (he doesn‘t take it cold either). We put it in a glass and heat in the microwave for about 45 seconds then pour into his Avent bottle. He drinks it all while I hold him, then he gets down and plays for a little while (as much as an hour) before eating breakfast. I have noticed he doesn't eat as much since he stopped BFding. He was eating very well while BFding 2x daily only morning and night and then using a sippy cup of milk or water with his meals. He drinks very little juice, only about 1-2 ounces per day and even then I water it down 2 parts juice to 1 part water. Some days he gets no juice at all, only water in his always available sippy cup and milk with all of his meals. I try to make sure he gets some fruit everyday.
