09-11-2008 - The Sleep Chronicals

My mood while writing this blog: tired

OK, well Trystian hasnt been sleeping through the night anymore... He orriganally was sleeping 6 hours and then up every hour after that! So we were still a little tired through out the day. That being said. 2 weeks ago, Trystian decided that he didnt even want to go to bed at night. We have our usual routine that we havent changed since birth... Well, we would go through our nightime routine and he would just SCREAM!!!! he would act as if there was something wrong... then if I were to take him back into the living room he would laugh and be happy... Well he would show tired symptoms again and so we try to go to sleep again... SCREAMS!!! So we started letting him scream and cry for 5-10 mins and we would go in and check on him, calm him down without picking him up and once he was back to sleep, we would leave, and no kidding he would be so asleep that you could poke him or something and he wouldnt wake up, but the second you sneak away and leave the room he would be screaming again no more than 5 mins later... so we let him cry for 5-10 mins, and then check on him again... and this would go on literally ALL NIGHT!!!!!!!!!! FUN right!!!!! very tired baby... Very tired MOMMY and DADDY!!!!!!!!!

Well after a week of this, he started going to bed easier, but he would still wake up every 15 mins and want comfort... so we were still letting him cry for 5-10 mins and then comforting him. We got to sleeping about 5-6 hours and then up every 15 mins... Well I needed sleep, so we went ahead and started letting him sleep in our bed after he would wake up after his 5-6 hour sleep. So then he was great! We would put him to sleep in his crib... he slept 5-6 hours, and I would be able to get a couple of hours uninterupted. Then he would wake up, I would go get him and bring him in our bed and he was sleeping through till I got up in the moring!!! We were so happy!!! Sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well after a few days of this going great! We had some problems. Didnt change anything! We would go through the same routine, but once he got to our bed, he would maybe sleep for a whole 15 mins, and then he decided to throw a tantrum, and so I turned over to not give him any attention and he kicked and screamed and my hubby told me he would rather if he were to scream to do it in his own crib... well good point. I picked him up and QUIET!!!!!!!!! All he wanted was to be held and rocked ALL NIGHT!!!!!!!! So needless to say, he went in his crib and I got back in bed, and we let him cry it out!! I even cried! Well he cried for about an hour and then he was asleep! So we slept the rest of the night- what was left... Then we decided that he cant sleep in our bed anymore, and we can see that the whole night time thing might just be going wrong because Trystian knows that if he cry's he might get what he wants...

The next night, we went through the normal night routine, and went to sleep... he woke up in the middle of the night, I let him cry for about 10 mins, then I got up, comforted him without picking him up. I left the room before he fell asleep, and he cried for about 10 more mins, and I did the same thing... Then I let him scream for about 20 mins and he finally started to settle down... Then he was up about an hour later... we did the same thing... This happened about 4 times in the night... and then the morning came.

The night after that, we went throught the normal night routine, he went to sleep, we went to sleep. He woke up in the middle of the night... He didnt scream, but more fussed for about 30 mins without us going in.... and fell asleep... Then he woke up again, sounded like a moan, and went back to sleep. The night after, he slept halfway through the night, fussed- barely fussed for about 5 mins, and asleep. I heard one other time he woke up in the night, he made a noice, and then asleep the rest of the night!!! So we slept ALL NIGHT without making mommy and daddy get up and comfort him!!! hopefully we can get him do do this again tonight and the next and so on!!!!!!!!!
