| 08-10-2009 - Update... Bells Palsy... | My mood while writing this blog:Average |
Hello everyone. Sorry about being M.I.A lately! My life has been a little crazy! We are still building our house, and my husband works all day from 5.20am then after he gets off work he goes to the house we are building and works til atleast 9.30pm every night, and thats 6 days a week! So I am still being a single parent and pregnant!
I had my ultrasound at 24 weeks, it all went super well. My placenta previa has moved out of the way, which is great news!! We found out that our baby is definately a BOY! Which we already thought he was, but it was so nice to have it confirmed! I was measuring right on target too!
I had about 6 weeks of feeling really good, tons of energy and not needing a nap during the day! It was great!!
The end of last week I started to get an ear ache, so I made an appoinment for monday incase it didnt go away over the weekend. So i went to the doctors, all seemed ok, my ear canal was quite red and irritated, but they said just to use over the counter drops in it, which i was super happy about, i didnt want to have to go on antibiotics. Everything went well for a couple of days, the ear seemed to get a bit better.
THEN.... yesterday I woke up with a very swallon face. I wasnt too worried about it until I searched it up on the internet. And I also called the health link and they said a swallon face in pregnancy is a big red flag and that I need to go straight to the ER. So off I went.... By now my face was still swallon, and I couldnt completely close my right eye. So a long story short... I stayed at the ER for 5 hours, was diagnosed with Bells Palsy... For those who dont know what it is, its when half of your face becomes paralised, you can not close one eye or even blink, plus all the muscles on that side of the face become paralised. So your mouth droops, its difficult to eat, sleep etc....
So all in all I was happy with the diagnosis, because they were originally thinking it was preeclampsia, which could be really bad for the baby... The only down fall of Bells Palsy is that I am now considered high risk, and have to get tests done every week, and have to see the doctor every week. Plus I have a much greater chance of developing preeclampsia. So I have to watch for that. Not too sure what the future will hold. I really hope I dont get preeclampsia.
The doctor has put me on steriods, and anti-viral medication. I wasnt happy about taking these, but I do trust my doctor, he is great.
I hope everyone else is having a great pregnancy! And have lots of energy!!
Good luck to those people who are due to deliver!!
AND..... Baby dust to all of those who are TTC!!
