I am so relieved and happy..the doctor's office called and gave me the amnio results. My baby is healthy and tested negative for Down syndrome and other chromosomal defects. They also confirmed that it is a boy indeed.
After having had a miscarriage 2 yrs ago I am so relieved to know that this lil one is ok. I know there is a slight chance really that a baby will have genetic problems but it is so heartbreaking when it happens. I've been reading online about Trisomy cases and they are absolutely devastating. I feel terrible for families that have a baby with trisomy and raise the baby basically celebrating every day since many of them die within days or weeks after birth.
I'm greatful for this site because I don't have many people to share my pregnancy experience with. It is nice to go through this journey together and see that we all have good and bad days and we all worry about the same things and support each other. When they were doing a short u/s before my amnio, I was looking for the baby's hands and toes and tried to count them to make sure they are all there. When the technician zoomed onto the heart I saw all the 4 chambers of it and cried. I asked the lady if it looks normal and when she said it is beuatiful I cried again. I remembered the moment 2 years ago when the doctor could not find my baby's heartbeat. That was terrible. Amniocentesis is for women who are basically more terrified of having a defected baby and dealing its loss then a miscarriage. They are both giving me nightmares. Anyway...It is done, it is a great feeling now.
