18-3-2009 - Please pray for our puppy

My mood while writing this blog: so sad

Our little dog Savannah (aka our first baby) is very sick.

We have had Savannah just about 13 months and she has brought nothing but joy and happiness to our lives. She is the greatest little dog with such an incredibly sweet and absolutely entertaining personality. We cannot imagine life without her now and do not want to.

Sunday night Savannah got into a bottle of Aleve that was obviously not put up high enough. I swear she can get into and on top of ANYTHING! She is currently at the vet having the toxins flushed out of her through an IV. Aleve is extremely toxic to anyone/anything less than 60 pounds so our little 16 pound dog is losing kidney function due to this.

Whatever damage done is permanent but they are hoping to flush her system and she will be able to live on what she has left. We won't know anything more before Thursday when they do more blood work to see where her kidney numbers are. Until then it is just a waiting game for us... The doctor said she has seen pups live on half of 1 kidney and would like to say they outcome will be good but they don't want to give us false hope either.

I do understand that to most people she is "just a dog"... but she is seriously our first baby and we feel so lost without her.

I'm supposed to be so excited that today is out first prenatal visit but I feel completely distracted by not having our puppy home with us...
