| 16-4-2009 - 1st Trimester Screening | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
We had our 3 month check up and our regular office last night. It was awesome! I thought it was just going to be a simple check up on my weight, blood pressure and we would get to hear the heartbeat! I was almost right, but we didn’t actually get to hear it. Dr. Cadieux prefers to see if she can get a visual again in the 12th week. So she spread the warm jelly all over my abdomen and put the u/s machine on there, and there was our little one just lounging away! It was so cute! The little hand was up to their face and the doctor thinks s/he was waving to us all! It absolutely amazed me how much it has become a baby in the last 4 weeks rather than a blob with a couple bubbles on the ends!
Then this morning we had to go for our 1st trimester screening in another office. I was very nervous and not at all sure what to expect from this appointment other than what I’ve heard from others. But we got there and basically got another u/s only this one lasted much longer. They are measuring a bunch of points on the baby and checking fluids and such, but while all this is going on you just get to lay back and watch it all on a different screen. When we first started the baby was just sitting back with her legs crossed and as soon as they came up on the screen the little hand went up and was going back and forth just like they were waving to us! It was incredible!!!! I mean just incredible to see them waving and bouncing around and looking so good! The measurements were great! I am measuring 12wks and 1 day which is just right. And they said the fluid measurement around the baby’s neck looked just perfect as well so there was no sign of Down Syndrome. BUT they won’t confirm that, they just said it looks good so far. They also took more blood after the u/s and that will also help to confirm that there is no Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida or Trisomy 18. I won’t have those results for 5 – 7 days and then I have to go back in 4 weeks for another blood test and that is testing for all the same things.
We did finally get to hear that heartbeat this morning though and it was so relieving!!! Seeing it just isn’t the same as finally hearing it! And it was just beating away 164 bpm, which many say means it’s a girl for us! I was so sure this was a boy, and now I’m so not! And I’m feeling very torn on finding out now too! I really want that moment in the delivery where they tell you what it is. I feel like that is the only surprise you really want in a pregnancy. But at the same time I want to start buying things and I do not like the neutral stuff I’ve seen. Especially the crib bedding! That all really annoys me because I’m not really doing a “theme” so much. We’re doing more of shapes, colors, thing of that nature and we had a great set picked out for a boy… now I just don’t know… lol! We don’t care which one it is, but I’m still torn on finding out in 10 weeks…
Well I hope everyone is feeling good, doing good and eating well!
Second trimester here we come!! And it feels so good to say that with a little bit of confidence…
