| 19-2-2010 - Houston, we have a heartbeat, but we also may have a problem. |
My mood while writing this blog: OK |
I had my first U/S today. I have one baby, in the right place, measuring exactly to the day 5w6d, with a teeny tiny flicker of a heartbeat. That's the really good news.
The not so good news is that I have a fibroid in the back of my uterus. The doctor said I have an increased risk of early miscarriage and to call immediately if I have any bleeding or spotting.
So it would appear a worry free pregnancy is not in the cards for us.
This was my first time seeing this particular doctor and I did not like him like the other doctors at this practice. He started out by saying "oh you're way too early, we won't be able to see anything". Thanks for the optimism, doc, argh! He also told me about the fibroid and whistled like it was bad, then proceeded to actually find my baby and show me. He also berated the nurse for something, and cursed when he banged his leg on the table and said he hated the setup in there.
I didn't ask how big the fibroid was or any other questions, b/c I honestly just wasn't getting any warm and fuzzy from him at all. I asked him about being cold all the time and he said "that won't last". Guess I will stick with the other docs and hope he's not the one on call if I make it to actually delivering this little bean.
DH wasn't able to go with me today and I also want him to be a part of the information sharing. I have my official "first OB" appt next week with one of the doctors I do like and at that time I'll have another scan and we can get the full scoop on the fibroid and what it might mean for this pregnancy.
There's not much to see, but I posted the U/S pic if you want to see my little speck.

Sunday, 21 Feb Hi, I too had the worst experience with the doctor when I went for my first and second appointment before I ended m/cing . They seem to forget they are dealing with human beings that have feelings, specially pregnant . It seems you are a very strong person and that is great so just ignore him and as soon as you can change to a more caring doctor . Just focus on the tiny heart beat. I ll root for you from here. IAP is a great site for me, I have had a couple of hard weeks but I feel better when I come here and share with the other girls that know and feel the strugles I am going through. I ll be rooting for you and sending all my best energies your way :) roosa -
Saturday, 20 Feb Congratulations on the heart beat! Try not to worry about the fibroid. I know it's hard not to worry but I truly believe all will be fine. Sorry you had such a downer of a doctor and I hope your next experience will be much better - you need it and deserve it. xox Karin firstlittleangel -

Saturday, 20 Feb I am so happy you got a heartbeat. Try not to worry about the Fybroid thing as I have heard of many woman having this and still delivering a healthy bubba! Doctors like that are so upsetting! They should be trained in good bed side manners as well as medicine. Grrrr!!! Glad you got the option to change docs! xxx misstwinkles -

Friday, 19 Feb Fantastic news hun, you have a little baby in there and its heart is beating! My mu had two massive fibroids in her uterus when she had my brother and didn't have anything other than a bit more pain. Our bodies are amazing the way they can adapt. Pity about the awful doctors. Thank you for looking at my chart, I am hoping too that it is a pre-ovulation temp dip. If it doesn't go up a lot tomorrow I will be pretty pissed though. Hugs to you and your little one. *** 2krazekdz -
Friday, 19 Feb Hey girl. Hopefully as long as they can monitor the problem, they can take steps to prevent complications. Just keep your chin up and know that now that you've seen the heartbeat, chances are in your favor for keeping this bean. xoxoMOMMYOF2BOYSxoxo -
