| 12-3-2010 - It is a MTHFR | My mood while writing this blog:good |
So I wanted to find out exactly what gene mutation I had and it was MTHFR after all. It is the C677T mutation (this is what my doctor called it, I didn't realize it was MTHFR at the time). But I only have one copy of it, and I don't have the other mutation A1298C, which can cause problems when you have both.
Doctor made it sound like I don't have too much to worry about with just the single copy, but I've already lost one baby that was 10+ weeks in size and had a healthy HB at 8 weeks. He did advise taking the baby aspirin, so I'm going to stay on on that. As a side note, since I took the aspirin last night, my heart palpitations have gone way down.
I have done some googling and I see conflicting advice where some say there's no extra risk and don't treat it, whereas some folks with just the single copy are being treated with extra folic, B-6 and B-12, baby aspirin and some even with lovenox if they've had multiple losses.
I know there are a few of you here with MTHFR mutations, so whatever knowledge you have would be awesome! I love my OB doc, but I'm not sure how much he's dealt with this, what type of specialist would know the most about this?
I am leaning towards taking the extra B vitamins anyway, I don't think it can hurt, since they are water soluble and your body just gets rid of what it doesn't need. Think I will leave a message with the doc and see what his thoughts are. I guess I'm doomed to be a high maintenance patient!
