| 28-10-2008 - crazy few days | My mood while writing this blog:tired |
Only read if you're bored....
Monday afternoon my baby-sitter called to say that she just saw on the news that someone was shot in her neighborhood. The elementary school was on lock down b/c the shooter was not in custody. My daughter gets off the school bus at that school and she wondered if they would let them get off the bus. So I called the transportation department. The police had recommended that no busses get deployed to that neighborhood. The kids were all on the busses but the busses were waiting at the middle school until further notice from the police. I asked if I could go to the school and pick her up and they said yes. So I rush to the school and there are no busses. Some parents were PISSED!
We drive back over to the other side of town to find nothing but chaos at the school. Cops, news, busses, cars, people... a total zoo. I was staring to get emotional and then I saw my daughter. I tried to wind the window down to yell to her but was too late. The police escorted all the kids into the school. I had to park a few blocks away and walk back to the school and figure out how to get her. People were everywhere! They had all the kids in the school and were selectively letting them out. Class by class, calling the kid's name so the parents could come and get them. After standing out in the cold for about 45 mins, they finally let me get Lexi. I was surprised at how emotional I was. I was fighting back tears. I put my arm around her and we walked back to the car arm in arm. When we got to my son's baby-sitter (a block from the school), I made her come inside with me instead of wait in the car. She said, "Wow Mom, you realy do care about me!" I couldn't believe she said that!! Of course I do!!!!!
It turns out that they found the guy in Grand Rapids (30 mins away) and he shot himself when confronted by police. He had shot and killed his girlfriend as well. No one knows why. So sad. http://woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=9245716
The rest of the night was just hectic. Home to eat a quick dinner. Back into town to pick up a rental car. Back home to get Lexi ready for her Orchestra concert. Drag Austin out to the concert and chase after him up and down the halls b/c he wont sit still. Back home at 8:30 PM. In the car to drive 3 hrs to Detroit for training the next 2 days... I had to drink 2 coffee's on the way and then couldn't sleep at all. Up at 6am to get ready for the training and then drive around in the dark trying to find the stupid place! Then try not to fall asleep in the boring class. I forgot to pack a tank top to wear under my blouse. So my boobs were hanging out all day in class.
But I'm safe and the kids are safe so everything is good for my family.
Peace to all the mammas out there!
