| 15-6-2009 - 105 Fever, no symptoms | My mood while writing this blog:educational |
Hey Ladies,
2 weeks ago Friday, the babysitter called me to say Zariya had a fever or 101. I thought not much about it b/c she had no other symptoms. Told her to giver her some Motrin and watched her on the weekend. She had one messy diaper and I thought maybe it was a small stomach bug. She was fine. No runny nose, cough..nothing.
Then on Monday, she calls me to say she has a fever of. 105. Come again? Yes, 105. I had her check again. Sure enough. So I called the doctor's office. They are closed over lunch. I didn't want to wait. So I went and got her and took her to Urgent Care. The Motrin had taken her fever down to 102.8 and then it went up to 103. So they gave her Tylenol and had us wait until it went down to 100. They could find nothing wrong with her.
They left me with instructions to alternate the Motrin and Tylenol and look for some rash or some other symptom to come in the next 24-48 hours. If the fever doesn't go away or comes back, take her to the ER. That night, she was done with her fever and I stayed home with her on Tuesday and she was fine. Fat and happy. =)
Then on Wednesday I got the call that it was back up to 104.8! So I raced to get her and took her to the ER. Poor baby was violated!!! OMG. Rectal temp twice, a catheter twice (couldn't get it in the first time), drew blood, X-rays... the whole mother load of tests! Poor baby was just a mess. She did look adorable in her little hospital gown tho!
Anyway, they came back positive for a UTI. They gave her two shots of antibiotics and sent us home after they made sure she had no reactions. We followed up with the doctor the next day and they scheduled an apt to get a VCOG & Renal U/S for this Wednesday. Poor baby has to have some fluid injected into her urethra to have her valves tested between her kidneys and bladder. They say it is "uncomfortable" so you know it's going to hurt like a ...... Then we have to follow up with a pediatric urologist. She'll have so many people looking at her privates (she'll feel like we did) she'll be scared for me to change her diaper!
I'm hoping it's all for nothing. I asked the doc if it was my fault she wasn't getting wiped properly and he said no. It's b/c a baby girl's urethra is so short and she's in a diaper. Front to back is very important, obviously!
I'll keep you posted. I'm sure it was a freak thing but the fever scares everyone.
I'm not looking forward to Wednesday... =(
