23-8-2009 - Mum's visit

My mood while writing this blog: Sad

My Mum came to visit us for just over 5 weeks. It was a very rejuvinating visit for her. Some of you know that my grandma passed away before Christmas and I shared some emails from my Mum. It affected her more than she realized and she misses her more than she thought. But on top of that, she realized it was time for her to start looking after herself and to stop being taken advantage of. There's too much to go into here but basically, her visit was a time of self reflection, rest and recuperation.

We went on lots of walks together and we spent most evenings chatting over a 'cuppa'. I hid my tears from her b/c I didn't want her to worry about me. I wanted to be her pillar. I gave her wonderful healthy eating strategies and encouraged and inspired her to get healthy again, both physically and emotionally. She lost 8lbs in the time she was here and has the tools to take care of the rest when she gets back to Australia.

She got to bond with the kids. Austin finally warmed up to her in the last week she was here. He wasn't sure how to handle her. Alexis spent hours at the dining room table making jewelry and chatting with Mum. Zariya was fed, changed, bathed and held by Mum almost the entire time! DH said he hasn't spoon fed her once yet! =)

It was tears at the airport and we stuck around to watch the plane leave. Lucky we did b/c I got a call on my way home to come get her. She'd missed the plane!!! WTH??? I thought it was a bad joke. It wasn't. Somehow she missed the plane FROM THE GATE!!! So we got to spend one more night & day with her. It was easier to say good-bye for the 2nd time. LOL.

I'm so glad that I love my mum and get along with her and that 5 weeks of 24/7 (minus work etc) was not enough. I'm sorry for those of you who don't have your mum still around and those that don't get along. I hope you can find a way to make a mense...

It was so quiet today when DH & DS were out in the woods, Z was asleep and L was spending the night at a friends. I didn't know what to do without my mum here. I didn't feel like doing all those things I had been putting off while she was here...
