| 30-7-2009 - High blood sugar... gestational diabetes | My mood while writing this blog:ok |
Well I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Yuck! My doctor wanted to do a glucose test early because I have PCOS. I had my glucose levels checked before I got pregnant and they were perfect! Well last Thursday I did the 1 hour test and failed by 1. Grrrr. So today I did the 3 hour test and failed by 1... again. Grrrr! I'm grateful it's not severe. It could have been much worse. Maybe if they would have waited until 28 weeks I would have had a 12 pound baby inside of me. This truly is a blessing in disguise. I was upset when I first found out. The thought of not eating any chocolate for 5 1/2 more months. I can't eat anything with Splenda in it, I'm allergic to it. Ahhh!
But I talked to my Mom and she said this so easy to remedy naturally. By having a balanced diet and exercise I won't have to take any meds. or insulin shots. I can have the occasional chocolate. I just can't go crazy. I've been keeping a food diary and I basically have a good diet. I just have to cut back on the chocolate and the fruit. Everything in moderation! A good thing about GD is that it will really keep my weight under control. I'll probably not gain anything. So far I've lost 8 pounds. We'll see!
I'm meeting with the nurse tomorrow (who is also a good friend of mine) and she's going to show me how to test my blood. I plan on being the best patient they every had. Perfect numbers everytime they see me and never having to use meds. or insulin. =)
When faced with sorrow or doubt I play the glad game (after I've had a good cry). I'm glad they caught it early, I'm glad I have already been eating right, I'm glad I'm healthy enough to have a good exercise routine, I'm glad that I'll probably get some extra sonograms later in the pregnancy. This too shall pass. I'll keep a smile on my face and a good positive attitude.
