BABY SHOWER WAR
TO OFFEND OR NOT TO OFFEND - choice your side carefully, my dear. The natives are restless...
My lovely mother, whom I love dearly, had decided to throw me a shower. I am pleased with this because truth be told, I didn't really want a party or want to ask friends to buy me stuff. However, as things are progressing, I am learning things about this party that are just NOT ME, but all her. You see my mother is very YUPPY and classy. (Appearance is everything) Therefore, I have been informed that mother's hosted shower will not be all BABYish. "For I am not a young mother, but an older mother and I don't really need a party with babyish things hanging around!!"
***here is where I am not sure if I am offended yet or not***
Her hosted party will be classy and formal like a tea party, a classy tea party without games and favors or prizes for a woman of my AGE.
***Makes me remember when I was in private school and instead of a traditional prom, we had a banquet without dancing and the stronest drink was grey earl tea.***
Well, I began asking a few of my close friends what they thought about a tea party type of shower and most throw their noses up and respectfully stated they had never been to such a BABY shower. They all know my mother fairly well and no one wanted to offend her idea or dismiss her on hosting a party of this type. I had to remind them that so far most of the invites to my mother's party were people that think like her.
**Mother means well. I know but this idea of hers is really not something I envisioned for a first time shower even at my age.**
SO, my best friend told me that a few friends have decided to throw a different party. A true game-prize-smut-favor Baby Shower. I was told that this was to be a 'surprise party'. I was informed of the surprise because they wanted to make darn sure no one would offend my mother. I couldn’t agree more.
**Offending my mother can be punishable by the fullest extent of the law.**
Now, I am excited about a second party.
***kinda beats that 'I don't want a party' theory all to hell. On one hand, I wanted the crazy shower and on the other hand, I still don't want to be center of attention.***
Therefore, they will plan it a week or so after my mother's and just say that some people were disappointed that they didn't get the invite to her/the first party and hosted a new one because gifts were already bought.
*** I am good at secrets. I can pretend it was a huge surprise after all, I don't want the other friends to know my BFF told me either.***
In the long run, I am ok with both decisions. I honestly don't know how my mother will react if she finds out. I have suggested that she get an invite to the 'surprise party' just in case. I don’ t think she would shrug too much, knowing that it was planned by a few of my other friends.
