My 28 Week Appointment!:

Last Thursday I had my 28 week appointment. The doctor checked his heart rate and it was 150 bpm, which is what it has been for months now. It usually stays between 140-150 bpm. Then, she measured my belly. Last Thursday I was 28 weeks and 1 day, but it's measuring at 30 weeks! So, I'm glad that I'm not measuring small, but I'm hoping he's not too big! Right when she was measuring she was pushing down and she then kind of jumped and said ,"Oh wow, I just had my hand around his head. I could completely feel his head in my hand!" and told me that he is already head down. As of right now, I can feel him changing positions all the time. I'm hoping since he seems to get in a head down position often, that he'll stay in that position when I get to the end of my pregnancy.

One thing that really bothered me though is that I'm not sure if I'm really getting good enough prenatal care. I switched my insurance right before I got pregnant because the insurance I had before was really expensive. My doctor is well-spoken, polite, and considerate and listens to my concerns. However, I am wondering if in general I am really getting what I am supposed to be. At my 20 week appointment my doctor was telling me how they started a Group care with all women due in November/December to all come in and have prenatal classes/pregnancy support group but also get their appointments in on that same day. She told me that one of the main reasons they are doing it is because they are so busy that sometimes women can wait up to 2 1/2 hours to see her if they just have regular appointments. I decided to give it a try because it's a pain to have to wait that long.

Well, my first 'session/appointment' was at 24 weeks. It went ok, but it was only the first one so I wanted to give myself more time to see if I liked it or could really benefit from it. I just don't know if I can keep doing it though. It's a room full of women, and most of them are under 18 years old. My sister was a teenager when she became pregnant, and she is a wonderful mother and my niece is very well taken care of. However, a lot of these particular girls seem much more interested in everything but their baby. They talk about how they hate how fat they are, how they can't wait until the baby is out, how they are 'gonna be annoyed when that baby don't stop cryin at night' etc. I feel like I'm the only one that is loving being pregnant and so excited to be a mother and learn everything I can from these classes. It's scary that some of these girls are actually going to be moms. One of them has only said a few things in the classes (she looks bored) and the few things I remember are that 1)she eats McDonald's every day 2) she refused to breastfeed her first and shes not going to breastfeed this one because she doesn't want saggy boobs 3) if you are stressed out when you are pregnant your baby will be stressed out for the rest of their ENTIRE life and also sometimes if you have stress during pregnancy the umbilical cord can (magically i guess) wrap around the baby's neck.

I mean I know there are many things I don't know about motherhood. I know I'm in for many surprises. But I don't know how I can benefit from these classes sometimes. Some of these girls already have 1 or 2 children and yet they know NOTHING about it. I wanted to be able to hear some of their stories since they have already been there, but it seems like they are so much more wrapped up in other things, and that the little bit of information they do have is either incorrect or just crazy. I just wanted to point out to her that there are women who deliver a baby while addicted to drugs, constantly fighting with their SO, and sometimes even homeless, and the baby ends up getting adopted and turns out to be a smart, wonderful child. She actually believed though that the baby would be running around his entire life a stressed out, neurotic person.

I know this is a very long blog but I really needed to vent! I know I can't switch to a different doctor now because I'm already this far along. However, if it's really this bad should I just go back to seeing the doctor, even if it can mean waiting hours and hours to see her? It's so hard to do this because as of right now we only have one car.

I guess I really need to think about what the best decision is to make. If it means my baby will be getting the best care possible, waiting hours and hours should be well worth it.
