11-6-2009 - Kidney infection

Well, two days ago the nurse called me and said the results of my urine culture tested positive for a bladder infection. This was news to me since I've had bladder infections before and know the symptoms and I have not been feeling any of them! However, this could explain the pain on the left side of my lower back that has been plagueing me for the last two weeks. The pain is especially bad at night. I told the nurse about it when I went in for the appointment last week and she thought it was due to lifting too much at work. Now I'm freaking out a bit that my one sided back pain may mean the infection has moved into my kidney. I was prescribed a safe antibiotic but I looked it up on Wikipedia and it says it is meant to treat only bladder infections and does nothing for kidney infections! I really don't know what to do. I suppose I will keep taking the antibiotic until my first appointment with the midwife on the 22nd and I'll definitely tell her if I still have back pain. I sure hope I won't!!

That really sucks. There is nothing worse than being sick when you pregnant. Especially if your already sick from being pregnant. I have had a bladder infection too and you would think there would have been that burning. Hope you feel better soon!
