10-5-2008 - New Hospital Update

My mood while writing this blog: Ok

5/10/08.

I had to go back to L&D night before last. I had been having worse contractions since about noon that day. They were more uncomfrotable and more regular than they have ever been. We went to Colton's ball game (my 11 yr old). I hurt, contracted the whole entire game. coulgnt get comfortable, kept getting up and standing, sometimes i would fee; a little relief when i would bend over at my waist w. my hand on my back. I know i prob looked like a goon, but i really didnt care. my best friend and another friend came and we all talked about everything. my bf knew i had been hurtingcontracting all day. she wanted to feel when i would have one... so i would tell her when one was starting, we did this for over 30 minutes, neither of us had watches on so we didnt know how close/far apart they were or how long they were lasting. but she called to my attention they were ~aroung 5 min apart. we are like sisters that get along, weve been friends since we were little girls as our moms were good friends. Since High Sschool weve been very very close.

after game finished we went home. davids mom, david and i started timimg them. David was the lucky one to get the honors, lol SO for 3 hrs they were consistently 5 min apart, lasting anywhere from 45 sec to almost 4 minutes, with the average around 1 min 45 sec. I decided we would go t, it was 930ish. david drew me a bath and i got in the tub, usually this helps me feel better. the few minutes i was in the tub, i never stopped contracting, they seemed less hard, but still hurt and were still 5 min apart. So he helps me outta tub, i get ,y pj's on. Its 1o ny this time, my mom came over to bring my oldest home from the ballpark, he wanted to stay and watch the other games that were going on. anyway mom came in our bedroom and she knew how i had been hurting all day contracting, i was at her house at noon when they really started getting worse. she said we should go on to hosp "just to see" just in case.

SO we got to L&D around 11 pm, unders the impression the RN could just check me to see if I had begun to dilate, if i hadnt we could just go on home. SO i called and i knew the RN very well we i used to work with her at home health. when i called the dept to ask her opinion as to what i should do. She said i could come on up and shed check me, if nothing was going on, we could go on home. Or if i was dilating she would call my OB dr and we''d go from there. SO i am thinking if this isnt it, we'll be abckhome in 30-45 minutes tops. Not the right thinking. Once we got there she told me she had to admit me, get all the paperwork signed by me, callmy OB dr to see what he wanted done. SO after an hr, she checked me, she said i was -3 and my cervix was dimpled, dunno what she meant, maybe 1cm, it was still a little firm but softer than it had been sunday. she called dr and he told her to keep me, get an iv started with IV stadol and he would see me in the morning if things didnt progress. the stadol made me delirious, idk why bc that was the 3-4th time i have had it. it made my contractions where i could barely feel them, but it took the pain away while they were still coming. they had me on iv fluids going twice the rate as they ever had before. so i was able to urinate-very frequently, like a waterfall. it felt good, i had been blocked and hadnt been able to get more than a few drops at a time out all day. But i was delirious, i had never felt like this before in my life. I had to urge to pee so david helps me up, as soon as i stand up, someting "gushes" out of me. it was at least a gallon of fluid. i told david i dont know, but that could be my water breaking. it was if i had no control over my bladder AT all if it was pee. it was so much it covered half of the hosp room and had to be mopped up. RN came in and brought some strip thingys. to ceck to see if it was my water, it wasnt it was pee.

Was up alnight back and forth to potty. couldnt stop talking, i am sure i wore davids ears out. the last time he or i recall looking at the closc it was 4:30 am.

He had tp leave around 630 to go take coltom to school and call in at his school and email his lessons plans for the substitute. i slept on and off until around 9.

my OB finally came in close to 1130 am to check me vaginally. first he got the huge light that pulls outta the ceiling.he cathed me, did Beta test, looked at my ceevix to see if i had leaked any fluid yet and to look at my cervix. no amniotic fluid had leaked out yet. he said i was 1 cm dilated and the baby was -3. basically told me it wasnt labor-that i was severely dehydrated and the stone and stent and pressure from not bieng able to empty my bladder was the reason i was hurting. he also did a transvag u/s to look at the lenght of my cervix. it was 3.7 cm, has to be 2.5 before labor begins. told me i didnt have to come back until my contractions were 3 min apart and lasting at least 45 sec to 1 min 30sec.

SO the dehydration was causing my contractions to come every 5 min for over a day and they did hurt pretty bad, not just the uncomfortable ones. he said the dehyration, lack of sleep/rest ( i had misssed 4 days of sleep in 7 days time, anxiety ans being on my feet were causing the contractions to be consistent and more painful and that they would get worseand worse had it been real labor.

so he said he was sending me home, just had to get B12 shot before i could leave. it was noon and i hadnt had any breakfast or lunch brought to me, he wanted to make sure it wasnt labor, before i could eat. so he left the room around 1200. so we waited and waited for the b12 to be brought up from the pharmacy. well we waited and waited some more. david finally went and got me some peanut butter crackers out of vending machine and a diet coke. the nurse finally came in at 200 to give the b12 shot to me. then we could go home.
