14-10-2009 - Officially a breastfeeding mommy again :)

My mood while writing this blog:

So, from time to time...I would still leak even though I haven't BFed with Rae since she was 3 months old or so. Last night I decided to see if I could get anything out...I pumped for 15 minutes and got a tiny tiny tiny amount. Then this morning I pumped and got a little more. Then I left to go shopping and when I came back pumped again, and got a little more....it went on through tonight...Im sure you get the point.

So....I think I'm starting up my supply again! The amount I can pump keeps getting greater and greater. I still won't be able to actually breastfeed...because breastmilk doesn't have enough calories for Raelyn and she's still waaaay underweight, and she needs to gain quite a bit by December otherwise the doctors step in. So I'll have to pump and add formula, maybe a few times a day I'll just breastfeed. I'm hoping this keeps up because I've missed it since I had to stop. I still don't know if/when I'll see if Raelyn can latch again...shes 7 months so I've kind of lost hope that she would since she's so old....but she can feed herself from a sippy cup so I might just pump and dump it into her sippy cup so she can feed herself. Idk yet though....Im trying not to think about that yet and more so concentrating on keeping this up.

I want to tell my hubs about this but he's in the field for the next two weeks :( I was crying earlier tonight because I miss him...I sprayed my pillows with his spray though lol

Edit:// Does anyone know of any methods or supplements ment to start up a supply, or make you have more of a supply? As I've commented on people's profiles...it's def. not enough to take up a meal time for Raelyn...The most I've pumped today/tonight is 5 mL...which is quite a bit for not breastfeeding in months.

Now, I haven't had a break in bf'ing my son but fenugreek has amped up my supply by an 1.5 oz ( a double pump session) and I've been taking it for about a week now. Congrats on your decision to bf again!

FENUGREEK was a life saver for me! When my daughter went thru growth spirts I took some and it increased my milk =]

I've not been nursing for a year or more and I'm still leaking lol. I think I was ment to nurse. I'm not pregnant for will I be again.

a yeast supplement worked for me, not in increasing it, but in bringing the milk down faster. Maybe this is what your problem was - your milk didn't come down fast enough and your daughter got tired and frustrated with sucking that by the time it did come down (the fatty part of the milk that fills her up) - she wasn't interested anymore. I def think you should keep it up.... Breastmilk has just so many good things in it. Even if it's just a little bit, it's going to help her out. Especially now with it getting cold and it being flu season. Keep up the good work!!!

I agree it will be great for a snack, I have to pump for Jasmine she'll be 1 tomorrow but I can alway's pump and put it in her sippy, She drink's Cow Milk and such but she get mommy's milk every night for a snack well basicly every day for a snack with her baby cookies & such......

well for a while i think it will be a GREAT snack for her. maybe you can call and ask your PEDS Doc on how you can involve breast milk into her diet and still give her a high calorie diet. but for now i think it will make her a great snack. :) GOOD LUCK!! i just started up breastfeeding my daughter.. not that i went that long but she latched right back. i think its more nateral and will take your daughter some practice, but i think she will remember how :)
