17-6-2008 - week 1

My mood while writing this blog: overwhelmed

Week 1 with baby Eleanor.

The very first evening was so hard, after having successfully breastfed at the hospital i didnt think i would have problems at home but i did. Eleanor couldnt latch on and what she did she wasnt on properly meaning it was excruciatingly painfull. I tried and tried and still nothing happened. I got so upset in the end i called the midwife begging for advice. Things mentioned were skin to skin contact and expressing milk and letting her take it off the nipple both of these failed and i was starting to get very worried as i didnt have any formula either so there was nothing i could give her at all. it was truly upsetting. As soon as the shops opened my mum dashed out to get some milk so that ellie could have a feed. we got the milk but then had troubles getting her to take it from the bottle. :( The teats were too big and she hated it, so we went on the hunt for smaller teats, oh my what a crazy day. Finally we found some small teats (NUK bottles are great) and she took the milk and was at last satisfied. Although at times is very sicky. :(

Midwife visits: The midwfie is supposed to visit us for the first 10 days, however after tuesday i heard nor saw anything from her :( how strange but i thought nothing of it, until sunday, when i had no choice but to phone them and ask what the hell was going on, their response; Ooops we forgot about you! oh my god i could have freaked right there and then but i had Ellie in m y arms. grrrr how annoyoing, thet came that day and did the usual checks. They weighed Eleanor and she has put on a whopping 10oz making her 9lb13.5oz. WOW! Everything with me is fine also, my stiched are healing nicely even though they still feel horrible.

Eleanor is a very happy and contented baby, she sleep well and even when she wakes its a quick nappy change,feed and off to sleep again. She only cries when hugry or wet and its only ever a quick wah lol. At the moment she often just sits up in her bouncer for about an hour just looking around the room, its so amazing to watch.
