| 24-10-2008 - 35 week appt | My mood while writing this blog:relieved! |
We had our weekly date with the doctor yesterday and it was quite possibly the second most nerve wracking appt we have had.
It all started with the scale. Somehow I managed to gain 7.6lbs in one week. WTF?? Okay, seriously, I know I'm huge and all, but I barely eat anything these days, there's no more room! Then, my BP is elevated at 140/90, which isn't too high, but i usually run at like 108/60, even when I"m pregnant, so that's pretty high for me. Not good things.
Then! I lay back and the doctor starts the ultrasound. Normally my U/S takes about 2 mins. We look at the babies, we check the heartbeats, check position and we're done. We do it at every appt, so it's kind of become a comfortable routine, you know? We joke around about how they are kicking each other in the head (they really like to do that) and just generally shoot the shit. (My Doctor is freakin awesome, I love him!) Well, not this time. This time it starts off normal, but after about a minute he gets very quiet and he starts moving the transducer all over my belly. At this point I begin to quietly freak out. My babies have been sitting on the right side of my uterus since about week 19, so usually we don't even venture to the left side. Well, it turns out that my son, who was previously breech has now turned so that he is mostly transverse, laying with his feet on the right side of my uterus and his head down by his sisters. The doctor was freaked out because initally it looked like my son had disappeared! Thankfully everything was okay!
So we start talking about how I'm feeling and I told him that I'm worried because of my big jump in weight, coupled with my elevated BP and the fact that I have those floaters in my vision almost constantly. He checked out my legs/knees for swelling (my left knee is pretty swollen) and then decided to order some STAT labs for me. He said depending on the results of the test I might have to have a NST, and depending on the results of that, we might have to deliver the babies early. That is NOT what I wanted to hear. I want these babies to stay where they are until election day. I keep telling them, "Don't go anywhere until you see the doctor! He's the one with the mask on!"
Anyway, I went and had my labs drawn. The doctor said no news is good news, and I hadn't heard from him by the time I went to bed last night, so I'm assuming we're okay. 11 days to go and I couldn't be happier!
