28-2-2009 - Anyone play volleyball at 20 weeks pregnant? OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

I just wanted to ask if there are any volleyball players out there? I play one day a week in a recreational women's league and its a lot of fun. Im almost 14 weeks pregnant and I have been fine thus far but I have committed to play in a 2 day women's tournament, 6 weeks from now (I will be 20 weeks along by then) and I was hoping there were some women out there that have played through their pregnancy that are willing to share their experience's, concerns and recommendations.

I am a psych nurse so I asked a doctor that I work with (although she's only a psychiatrist, lol) and she seems to think its fine but I would rather speak with women that have done it and make my decision that way. I dont want to jeopardize the baby's well being and I certainly don't dive around on the floor for the ball like I used so I dont think its a problem. In fact, my biggest problem will be getting off the ground (jumping) since I will probably have gained 12 lbs by then thus my timing and technique will be off etc.

I would appreciate your thought ladies:)

It seems to me that it would be considered exercise. So, as long as the doc says you can still do that then you should be fine....I would ask though just to be on the safe side. Just DON'T fall down!!!!!

I would say speak to your doctor first, or your midwife. I know some ladies have played womens football until they were ready to drop! But everyones different. Contact sports is a no no!

Ask to be sure ;o)
