| 13-6-2009 - Weight gain at 28-29 weeks??? |
My mood while writing this blog: Ok |
I dont write on here often but I certainly enjoy reading some other people's blogs....other's I could do without, ha ha.
Anyways, I wanted to know if there were any other mom's-to-be out there that were measuring big? I am almost 29 weeks and have gained 25 lbs which seems to be at the higher end in regards to pregnancy weight gain and when I say "measuring big"....Im referring to the 28 week ultrasound I had done last week that said my baby was already 3 1/2 lbs!!! The technician was also flabbbergastered at the length of her feet. She said they are measuring almost 3" long and that is roughly the size of a new born and I still have just under 3 months to grow yet!
I realize we are tall people and we aren't going to have a small baby but I worry that I will have to have a
c-section because she will be over 10+ lbs. My husband was 10 lbs 9 oz at birth (he is now 6'4", 225 lbs) and I was a month premature as a baby and still weighed 8 lbs!! I am now 6'3" and 170 lbs (well, I have gained 25 lbs since being pregnant of course).
Does anyone else have tall/big baby genes or have friends that have had large baby's? Were they able to deliver naturally or by c-section??
Thanks.

Thursday, 2 Jul I just read your blog on measuring big 28weeks-29weeks. I started out at 148 with my son and at the end of my pregnancy I weighed 180. When he was born he weighed 10lbs 6oz and was 23" long. They didn't think he would be that big they were guessing that he was going to be around 8lbs and boy were they wrong. I was able to have him naturally, everything went fine. He was healthy and I was just fine, it was actually easier to push him out than it was with my first and she was only 7lbs 8oz. The only problem I had was a few hours after he was born I was losing a ton of blood, they finally had to give me some clotting medication but that stopped it right away and everything was fine. I'm expecting a girl next and they are going to do an ultrasound at the very end and as long as she isn't over 10lbs 6oz then they will let me have her naturally as well. Good Luck and I hope this helps! barbieken7981 -

Saturday, 13 Jun hello- i have a great personal expierence to share with you that will hopefully give you some peace. i was very small to start out with (110 lbs) so my doctor told me to expect to gain more than some women and said i would gain around 40 lbs. well that is EXACLTY what i gained. i gained steadily, about a pound per week. so at 28 weeks i had gained around 28 lbs give or take a few. i ALWAYS measured 2 weeks ahead. i was very concerned about this bc i was afraid that i had a large baby and wouldnt be able to deliver him natural bc of my small size. the last u/s i had was at 18 weeks, so we had no way to guess the size of the baby besides feeling and measuring my belly. i always voiced my concern to my doctor every time he measured me, but he said ''theres nothing to worry about, he wont be over 8 lbs." well i went in to be induced at 40 weeks 3 days and ended up giving birth VAGINALLY WITH NO TEARING to a 9.5 lb baby boy!! my doctor was so shocked, but i was not. i knew he was big and i just couldnt get them to listen to me. i had even asked for another u/s and they wouldnt give me one. i was very lucky that my pelvis was the perfect shape for delivery, otherwise i would have ended up with a c/s and it would have been an emergency c/s too bc they didnt know before my labor how big he was. so trust your instinct, MAKE them listen to you. but also, try not to worry too much because it CAN be done, even by the people you wouldnt expect to be able to do it. now that i have been through this i am not going to go past my due date at all next time bc i dont want the baby to get too big and end up with a c/s, but i will def be having them check the size more towards the end next time! good luck! Saturday, 13 Jun I don't think you have to worry about the weight you've gained cuz it is not all baby. I gained 50 pounds with my 2nd and she was only 9lb 12oz, 21 1/2 inches and I delivered her vaginally but with an episiotomy. I had an ultrasound done 6 days before the birth and I told the doctor then that this baby would be bigger than my first (9lb 6 oz, 21 3/4 in) and he said no way and that she was only going to be about 7 pounds. HAH - he was wrong with me so there is a possibility he is wrong with you. My oldest is 13 and already stands 5'10 and over 200 pounds (this is solid mass, she is not fat in the least). My other two are what is considered "normal" size. I am a larger person as is my husband and many of his family members. Doesn't mean a c-section. I'm rambling but I hope this helped a little.
