| 16-10-2008 - Thanksgiving | My mood while writing this blog:thankful |
In Canada we had Thanksgiving over this past weekend, and it really had me thinking. With all of the economic crisis' going on in North America and now globally, sometimes it's hard to be thankful for what you really have.
For once, I am actually happy with my life. Although things are not perfect, I have everything I need right now. In the past i compared my life to other peoples - "why does everything work out forher and not me", "why don't I have a great job like hers", etc. Although I still do that from time to time, I am much better at blocking that negative thinking out of my head. This baby has been life altering for me and my boyfriend. Everyone notices such a change in me - for the better. Although I complain about not having enough money, not a big enough house, not enough clothes, not travelling enough, etc.....when it all comes down to it none of that is important and I'm glad I have realized that! Sometimes we spend so much time focused on complaining about the things we don't have that we forget to be thankful for what we do have. Now I'm trying to focus on the positive and be thankful for everything in my life!
I am thankful for:
- A soon-to-be healthy baby boy
- My loving, faithful bf - Richard (although he can make me mad at times, I am lucky to have such a great guy)
- My loving, supportive parents who I have restored a better relationship with.
- My sister, brother-in-law and neice
- My Oma (Grandma), she has been so supportive, even though she has coservative views, in her eyes I can do nothing wrong
- A roof over my head
- Food, something many ppl take for granted. But with a huge turkey sitting in front of me last weekend I couldn't help but think how lucky I was compared to other ppl who dont get to have a thanksgiving dinner with family
- Clothes, even though I complain they are not stylish enough, lots of ppl would love to have them
- Education - both myself and Rich have 2 University degrees each, and although finding a job is difficult, at least we have the means to do it.
- My dog, as silly as it may sound, he provides us with so much love and joy.
- My friends, although some have made it apparent they don't want to be a part of my life, others have been so great and I love them to death.
- My neighbours, we live in a close neighbourhood and eveyone has been so helpful and the baby has brought me closer to some ppl, its really amazing how a baby can do that!
- A beautiful baby shower that so many ppl showed up to! I must have a lot of ppl in my life that actually care about me to make such a big fuss
- The means to get a new car, although its not the high end model, nor is it luxury...it gets us from point A to point B safely.
This list will grow with everyday as I have more things to be thankful for......
