My mood while writing this blog: Ok |
An absolutley hellish labour but a gorgeous little outcome! I went in
to be induced at 7pm and was given the gel but they didnt think it
would work as my bishop score was only 4 so they said I would probably
need to go and get my waters broken in the morning but by 10pm I was
having contractions every 2 minutes lasting 40 seconds and they didnt
hurt but were uncomfortable. At 11pm my waters broke and after that the
contractions got quite intense so my hubby came in at 2am to sit with
me. I managed until 6am but the contractions got too much for me at
that point so they took me down to delivery where I had some gas and
air which was fantastic! They examined me at 8:30am to find I was only
2cm dialated but also the baby was laying back to back. They decided to
start me on the drip to speed things up but recommended an epidural
first as things get much more painful with the drip so I agreed but
didnt want it too high. The epidural was horrible going in but once it
was in it was great! It was low enough that I could still move and feel
the contractions but high enough to take the edge off. So I laboured
all day and by 4pm I was exhausted and they examined me again to find I
was 10cm so turned the epidural off and I started to push at 5pm. By
6pm I hadnt made any progress and the baby`s heartbeat kept dipping so
the midwife called in the dr who examined me to find that the baby had
turned its head sideways! He gave me another 20 minutes and said if I
still hadnt done anything I would need to go to theatre for forceps. He
came back after 45 minutes and I still hadnt made any progress and baby
had turned its head even more plus I was getting quite hysterical by
this point as the pain was awful so they took me to theatre. In theatre
they kept topping up my epidural but I could still feel everything and
they realised it had fallen out. They tried 5 times to get it back in
and then a spinal block which all failed then my bp and pulse dropped
and they said I was just going to have to be brave as they needed to
get baby out. They got my legs ins stirrups and then found they had to
cut me which was just agony as there was no time for a local
anasthetic. Then they put the forceps in and turned baby`s head and
then pulled its head out and shouted `heres the head` and I screamed
`well get the bloody rest of it out then` and they all laughed at me
lol. Baby Theo Robert Dean was finally pulled out at 8pm exactly on the
19th of august, my 21st birthday! They took him off and cleaned him up
while I was stitched up.
He weighs 7lb 4oz and is the most gorgeous, contented little baby. They
found out since that I have an oddly shaped pelvis which is why my
babies always lay back to back in me and any babies I have after Theo
will have to be born by c-section, which I`m ok with after 2 very
traumatic deliveries!!
