04-12-2009 - Mirena & Post-Partum Sex

Today I had Mirena inserted for my form of birth control. I don't not want to have anymore children and I was supposed to have a tubal during my c-section, but since I had a surprise VBAC I didn't get my tubal (because my doc was out of town and I didn't want the on call doc doing my surgery). I am getting ready to go back to work next week and I can't miss any more days, so I just opted for Mirena since my insurance covered it 100% (otherwise it's $500). I have always taken the pill in the past so for some reason I was freaking out about this being inserted. Let me tell you.....it did not hurt at all for me, just felt like a normal pap smear/exam. I had it done about 12 hours ago and now I have some slight cramping, kind of like light menstrual cramps but so far that is all the discomfort I have had! I've been spotting since I left the office and they said that is normal, but only enough to need a panty liner. I go back in 2 weeks just to make sure everything is still in the right place and we are supposed to use condoms until then.....but to be honest I haven't even had sex since the birth of my son - 8 WEEKS AGO! I am so afraid, I had major tearing of the labia and a lot of stitches down there so I'm still afraid...my poor husband! Anyone else afraid? I had a c-section with the first and we had intercourse 2 weeks after the birth, but this time was so different! I sure hope this is normal, plus I don't feel in the mood (major lack of sleep lately) and I completley don't feel sexy these days! Please let me know that I am not the only one that feels like this....night ladies!

My guy and I tried to have sex after my 6 week check. It hurt too much. I felt like crying. It was worse that loosing my virginity. He couldn't actually do anything because it hurt too much. I had a tear and stiches so I think i'm still healing not to mention I just am not i the mood at all.... too tired. Thank god the man understands!

I'm going to get Mirena too, my OB had to order it though so it's going to take a few weeks. Did your doctor explain how it works as birth control to you? Glad to hear that it went well for you. I have heard it can be a little uncomfortable- my OB actually told me to take some Motrin before I come to get it inserted. I am scared to death to have sex again!! During my pregnancy I had NO sexual desire, I couldn't even force myself to do it. My poor husband. I am SO sore down there still, I tore in and out and when the doctor gave me the internal I was in tears =( Well good luck hunny!

I also decided to go with Mirena this time, so thanks for posting how it went for you! Just the opposite from you, I had a surprise c-section, and even though I feel fine enough to have sex, I'm still spotting a bit. I want that completely gone!! With my first I had a tear with stitches and had sex at about seven weeks, and it was uncomfortable the first time but not painful really--mostly mental, I believe. Good luck! Sleep deprivation is definitely a mojo killer! :)
