Ok IAP ladies, I am hoping at least one of you may have an answer..
I went to lunch with a friend of mine today and she thinks she may be pregnant. This is her second cycle after a miscarriage & she says her last cycle was completely normal. Her period is now 2 days late so she went and bought a hpt that came back negative (she did not use fmu, but hadnt had anything to drink for a few hours). We ended up on the topic of using an OPK as a pregnancy test. Soo in the name of science I peed on 1 that I had left over and.... BFP (at 12 weeks). I gave her the rest to take home since I have no use for them and she called a little while ago saying hers also came back positive.. My question for you guys is- Do you think it is possible that the OPK could be picking it up and not the HPT? Or is her cycle really crazy and maybe she's ovulating?? Oh she also said the test line is def darker then the control...
I hope someone can shed some light on this...

I am clueless with all the opk, hpt stuff...so, I can't help you...BUT, I was checking in to see if she WAS pregnant?

OPKs are very sensitive, and can pick up as little hCG as 10 mIU. It is possible the OPK is picking up an early pregnancy. The other option is that her cycles are off, and she may now in fact be ovulating. It's a tough call. If she is at all concerned, tell her to just get a blood test. In the mean time, if she is having a late ovulation cycle, perhaps she should BD!
