26-4-2009 - Midwife Thinks This Is Probably It....?????

My mood while writing this blog: Exhausted but Cautiously Excited

I've been having contractions for weeks now, particularly at night, but the night before last I had 16 hours of contractions that were spaced 4-5 minutes apart. I thought it might be time but they never grew in intensity and finally yesterday afternoon they stopped. Then last night at around 9pm they started up again, but this time they were 2-3 minutes apart and accompanied by cramping, menstrual-like pains, lower back pain, and shooting pains. I still wasn't convinced because at about 1am I was exhausted enough to sleep through them for an hour and a half. I woke up at 2:30am in incredible pain and they were still coming at 2-3 minute intervals. I called our midwife and she said that the menstrual cramp pains that accompanied them were what they were waiting for, and that it sounded like I am in a very drawn-out early labour pattern. She said that something would likely be happening in the next 12-24 hours! Because I am attempting natural labour, she suggested we not come to the hospital until I couldn't actually speak through the contractions and that in the meantime I do whatever I could to try to steal a few more hours of sleep. My husband gave me a long massage and I took a bath and finally we both passed out for another couple of hours, although I could still feel the pains through it. I'm still having contractions accompanied by pain, but since I slept more they are now spaced further apart. Not sure what to expect, but the midwife said this might happen and were likely to start up again and become more regular sometime today. AAAAhhhhh I hope so and am so filled with suspense! I am so excited to meet my little guy! If it's not it I don't know how many more sleepness nights of false pre-labour I can endure, especially if I am going to have enough energy to push this little guy out...zzzzzzz. I'll update again soon, I hope with a birth story...please keep your fingers crossed for us!

ahh. i'm so excited to hear about your birth. thats how my contractions were. they felt like HORRIBLE period cramps and i couldn't talk OR BREATHE through them!! good luck :) my little guy will be a month old Thursday!

Oh I so hope for you that active labor is around the corner! Good luck with everything. If you can't sleep, try watching a funny movie to help you at least relax through the contractions. If you are in labor, I wish you well with your delivery for a safe and happy birth!!! :)

I'm stuggling with period like cramps and back pain too, so i know how exhausted you must be feeling. You're in my thoughts, hopefully it'll not be to much longer for either of us. x
