08-10-2008 - Swelling and possible infection Fed upMy mood while writing this blog:
Fed up

I visited my GP yesterday after continous migraines and during my visit he tested my urine as I haven't seen anyone since I was 29 weeks (now 35+), I was told that it would be sent for further investigation due to the presence of white cells. Sorry for tmi but an hour ago I realised that I hadn't mentioned that my genital area is swollen and now feels sore, as you can expect I'm worried now! I suffer with bad varicose veins and just assumed it was to do with that but could the swelling be due to a uti? It doesn't hurt when I pass urine and I'm drinking well.Any advice is recieved with thanks x

From one varicose vein sufferer to another....my down below region constantly feels swollen! I hate to think. In fact I told my husband I'm almost embarrassed to give birth what with the state of my legs never mind what I look like down below!!! Not long now though. Hopefully it is nothing to worry about.

The swelling and soreness could actually be normal at this point in your pregnancy, so try not to worry about that unless your doctor gives you a reason to worry about it. They should be getting back to you soon about the reason for the elevated white blood cells...it's probably something that can be easily cleared up with the correct medicine. I assume you aren't running fever...I know it is hard not to worry...but try not to worry...

White cells means active bacteria are present. they just have to test it ( a culture) to see which ones. I have never heard of swelling during a UTI. I am a nurse, and I have had UTI's . The swelling could be from another infection brewing in your vagina, especially if it feels irritated. As far as burning, lots of females don't experience burning during UTI's. What abut discharge? Are you having any other than clear or white?
