| 07-6-2010 - My Pregnancy Diet Journal-1 | My mood while writing this blog:A lot less bloated! |
My “Pregnancy Diet” Journal-Week 1
23 weeks pregnant
I've been doing this for a few weeks now, but I'll just make it easier for blog purposes and call this the first week. But I have to say since I've been doing this for a few weeks now, this was nowhere near as hard as it was the first week! So I feel like I cheated, haha. Which brings me to my first topic...
So I had a minor set back on Saturday and I'm not gonna bother with feeling guilty about it because that doesn't do anyone any good and it didn't spiral me out of control anyway, so I see it as a little treat and a win since it didn't totally break me, haha. So on Sat, my mom and I had tickets to go see A Chorus Line in Hollywood and originally we "thought" she booked the tickets for the 2pm show. We also were starting a tumble and dance class for Summer that morning, we were going to all go out to lunch after her class and before the show and I got up early to go to the gym to swim some laps too. So it was a super busy morning rushing around, and I was pretty tired. So my mom called as I was leaving the gym and said that she made a mistake and she accidentally got the 8pm tickets for that night. And I was worried because I fall asleep pretty early these days and 8pm is late to be all the way up in Hollywood, see a show then drive home. So I decided to get a starbucks caramel frapp with half decaf and half regular coffee to keep me awake for the big evening. (strike 1 & 2) And then I was doing so much before we were set to leave that I didn't give myself enough time to get something to eat and we didn't have enough time to go grab something before th show either because there was traffic. (No shock there!) So not a good spot to be in, I was pretty hungry just before the 2+hr show was about to start and all they have is movie snacks and alcohol! So I got what I figured was the best of the worst, a blueberry muffin-strike 3. (A tiny muffin for $4.00! Hello! Ridiculous!) Anyway, my own fault. Sooooo, I had a sugary coffee drink as well as caffeine which I do not drink at all when preggo, and I got a sugary muffin. So not really a banner day, haha. Except that I swam. So that was really good! Anyway, Sunday came and I was back full swing. Didn't even sample the yummy chocolate and caramel covered popcorn and kettle corn and stuff at Costco! Has anyone had those fancy popcorn's they will sometimes sell at Costco? OMG! There is one called "zebra" and it's sooooooooo good! I walked past the guy with my hand by my eyes and I told him I was not gonna even look at him, haha!
So it's been going well and I figured that since I'm now keeping better track I should step it up.
-So I started going to the gym to swim laps a few times a week which helped me tremendously with my first pregnancy (as well as in labor). I'm keeping track of that on my profile page.
-I been more aware of drinking more water and I take my to-go water cup which is 20oz whenever I leave the house and I notice I drink it when I'm driving or walking through the store and I don't even realize I've been drinking it. The other day I drank the full 20oz while I was at Target and I swear if you asked me I would say that I never took a sip cuz I was on autopilot! So for me, it's working quite well to take it everywhere I go to get all my H2O for the day! (I got one of those reusable cups from Starbucks that looks like the clear plastic frapp cup, but it's a travel cup. Anyway, I got the big one which is 20oz. Kinda expensive, but I had a gift card, plus I save on not buying water bottles and just refilling it at home.)
-I'm also trying to be more conscious of cutting out "corn products." And not corn on the cob, or sweet corn that is frozen, but the corn that is in EVERYTHING like high fructose corn syrup and stuff like that. So I'm now trying to be more aware of staying away from bread and cereal and stuff that has that as well.
-I switched to 1% milk.
-I've been trying to eat a bunch more veggies and helps if it's already washed and bagged in the fridge. So I'll make a turkey sand and totally load it down with veggies. Our green beans just came up in our little farm and they are so fresh and yummy so I have been eating a ton of green beans lately.
-A lot of my dinners consist of a huge salad filled with a ton of veggies as well as some grilled chicken and some cheese and some almonds or something and then a non fat dressing that I make myself. And I'll have some bread and butter too. It's not really a low fat salad, but I'm not really trying to go low fat right now. Just healthier stuff even if it's got more fat like avocado and cheese and nuts and stuff. All of that is yummy stuff for the baby!
So these are some things I have noticed since changing my eating habits.
-I lost 3 lbs! I was pretty surprised actually. And I feel like it's a healthy way to do it because I wasn't cutting calories or skipping meals, I just wasn't eating junk and I was adding some exercise too.
-I'm also more aware of portion control as well, and I don't take as much anymore, unless I'm actually hungry. When i'm hungry I eat, for sure! And right now I find that I'm hungry about every 2 hours! I just make sure my snacks and stuff are healthy.
-I'm not as bloated and I don't feel as fat.
-I don't have heart burn or the breathing issues I was having nearly as much as I did before.
-I am not out of breath as much since I've been swimming again.
-I'm not as tired/cranky/irritable
-Also I kept a log from my last pregnancy and since I lost weight recently and I started eating better a few weeks ago, I have not gained as much this time at 23 weeks as I did with my first, so I'm really excited about that! And I hope that I don't gain as much overall if I can help it! But I'm not going to stress about weight, just eating better.
I hope everyone is doing well! Hang in there!!
