| 30-4-2009 - NO MORE WEIGHT ISSUES!!! | My mood while writing this blog:ecstatic |
So I have never actually posted a blog on here before, but I figured it was the quickest way to update everyone at once who cared to know or who had been following my story about the weight issues I had with my daughter. For those of you who dont remember the story let me sum it up quickly here:
Journey was born weighing 8lbs 13oz and when she came home from the hospital she was just under 8lbs. She had been ebf and was doing well at the beginning quickly regaining her birth weight and steadily climbing. She averaged out into the 50th percentile by 1 month. At 2.5 months when I took her for her first set of shots she was 11lbs and 3.5oz. When I took her for her 4 month check up she had dropped to 9lbs and 10oz so obviously not good. The doctors almost classified her as failure to thrive because she had dropped so low off the charts.
The problem turned out to be my milk production, it started to dry up for no reason at all... and I was put on prescription meds (domperidone) since I really did not want to give up breastfeeding. Our doctor also asked me to start introducing some infant cereal at 4 months. She quickly started gaining her weight back and my milk came back in full force 2 days after starting the meds. She was gaining about a pound a week for awhile there, going from under 10 to 14 pounds at 5 months and getting back on the growth chart in the 25th percentile.
We just got back from her 6 month check and there are NO MORE WEIGHT CONCERNS. The concern has gone from high at 4 months to moderate at 5 months to NONE at 6 months. My baby is getting really chubby and she is back in the 50th percentile which matches her length now. She is over 16lbs and still breastfed and now she is starting to eat solids. She is doing really great and has been hitting all her milestones so far.
I just wanted to share this with everyone because I am so happy!
