13-8-2009 - Stitches or Staples???

So i went to my dr.'s appt on Monday and everything seemed to be A-OK with baby Isabella!!! Yay!! On the 15th it will be four more wks till scheduled c-section.

I talked to my stepmom before dr appt about c-section surgery since she also had c-section but with hardly any scarring after healing. She had her skin stappled after delivery of brother...she recommended the same for me. I was sewn back together and it left a rim after healing...not too pretty....stepmom's is like as thick as a hair, you can hardly tell.

So i asked my dr. at this last appt about stapples...he said he could do either or, just to decide which way i want to go before next appt on the 24th. He prefers stitching skin back together since it's a lot easier and they disolve and don't have to be removed after surgery. Stapples you have to come back and get them removed (more work for him)...he says he doesn't guarantee my scar to look any better than before...

Any advice will help...i don't know what to do??? Stapples or stitches???? What do you think???

Did you decide yet? I guess I'll just be getting stitches like I did last time. No one gave me an option. I guess I'm kind of glad because it would have been hard me to to decide too!

I'd say go for the staples ... afterall, it can't really hurt. Either you'll have barely any scarring or you'll have just as much as you do with the stitches. Of course it's entirely up to you -- but hey, what you gotta' lose? Good luck!

well, they never asked me when i went for my 2 c-sections. . they just automatically gave me staples. yes, you have 2 go back & have them removed, but it didn't really hurt to get them out & my scar isn't puffy or ugly or anything. but since you've already been sewn once before, even if they did the staples this time, it would probably heal to look the same way it does now.

Hey just came across ur blog. I had both stickes with my firstt and staples with my second. Stickes do leave a bigger scare but i found the staples to be very unconfortable. They would pinch and pull when i rolled oveer in bed or walked but only one or two on the end. I had 14 staples and they do leave a nicer scare after it was alot smaller them when i had stiches! But also keep in mind that for the first five month the hole where the staples where in also where therehubby said i had a smile face with braces cute hu lol. But they did go away just in time for me to have another c section lol. Good luck !!
