| 26-7-2008 - Pregnancy Updates | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
May 30, 40 weeks (minus a day but who's counting?) -
Went
to the doctor today and I am STILL 2 cm, 50% effaced even though I had
a 4 hour long run of contractions 4 minutes apart the other day. :P The
midwife did a membrane sweep which really didn't hurt at all, even
though she said she did a very thorough job. Hopefully this will either
kick-start my body into going into labor or make it realize it isn't
ready yet and it needs to rest and save up for the "real thing!" I
really wanted a baby born in May for only one reason - those beautiful
birthstone necklaces where you can put your whole family's birthstones
on them. My birthday is in June, so I wanted a May baby so every stone
would be different. Silly reason, I guess, but I figure once I cross
over into June I won't care how long Baby takes!
May 14, 37 weeks -
So
my stamina has increased quickly! My husband and I have been doing lots
of walking in hopes of a baby that comes BEFORE his/her due date
instead of after, for once. :) While teaching last night I actually
demonstrated some of the steps a little bit - it felt so nice. Plus, I
got the rush of endorphins from simply being able to DO something
physically. I hope this feeling *good* lasts for awhile longer!
May 5, 36 weeks -
How is it now 36 weeks?!? Time
has flown by. I've been getting small spurts of the nesting bug, but it
is mostly my husband that has been obsessively cleaning! This is great
(and I hope it continues, hee hee).
I have been able to be free of
the bed for almost a week now and am gradually building up a little
more stamina. It is so wonderful to be able to go to the store! The
crib is put together, with mobile, the baby clothes that we have are
washed and in drawers, now I just need to get around to packing my bag.
I've been having lots of contractions still; they get regular for a few
hours at a time, 3-5 minutes apart, then peter out.
I'm hoping this means that when I finally go into labor my uterus will
be really strong and accomplish a lot in not much time. :)
We have our Birth Plan visit scheduled for today! It is all getting closer. YAY!
April 15, 33 weeks -
This
past weekend was quite eventful, but not in a good way. Saturday night
I suddenly started having contractions 2 minutes apart. I tried
drinking a big glass of water, laying on my side, eating a snack, but
nothing would space them out farther than 3 minutes. I called the
midwife who had me take 4 ibuprofen tablets and said she would check on
me in an hour or so. After an hour had passed, they had spaced
themselves out to 7 or 8 minutes and were definitely lessening in
intensity, but she still thought I should be checked out. At this point
it was almost 11:00 at night and the kids were sound asleep so I asked
if we could give it 15 more minutes before we decided to rouse a
babysitter so late. Luckily, I only had one contraction in that time so
I was allowed to go to sleep at home!
The next morning I needed
to go to the hospital for an NST which looked great! (Only two
contractions during the test) Baby is sooo active and his or her
heartbeat definitely responds to his/her movements. They decided to do
another fFn and to check my cervix so I was moved to a private room for
some additional monitoring and privacy. While I was laying there doing
nothing, I started having some more contractions, but they were very
small in my opinion and not really regular (I've been living with way
more intense contractions than those for weeks!) My cervix, though, has
been changing from all of this. I was 50% effaced and 2 cm dilated and
the baby is fully engaged - something that usually doesn't happen until
you are in labor with a third baby. They kept me on the monitor while
we waited for the fFn results which were negative, yay!
We thought
we would be able to go home but then I started having more contractions
at three minutes apart. The wonderful nurse brought me lunch and told
me I had ten minutes or else they were going to give me terbutaline.
Well, the contractions did not go away at all so she came in with the
shot. I asked her if we could give it 15 or 20 more minutes and she was
very sweet as she told me no way! I had been laying there doing nothing
for hours, drinking lots, using the bathroom every 30 minutes or so,
and eating and the contractions went from hardly any to very regular.
So, I had no choice, but I am going to do everything I can to prevent
having to get that again! I was so jittery and I felt like my heart was
going to beat out of my chest. But, it did the trick - only one
contraction right as it was starting to wear off!
My hubby had
taken the kids home during the midst of this so my mom came to pick me
up from the hospital with the most beautiful diaper bag I have ever
seen! She had also stuffed it full of little things for the baby; it
definitely brightened my day. Thanks, mom! Now I am forbidden from
doing anything that initiates contractions (which includes walking more
than four or five steps) :P They also told me that after 34 weeks, they
do nothing to try and stop labor anymore, they just let the baby come.
That was a shock to me! It made my husband put up the crib yesterday
and made me think I should have my bag packed just in case!
My profile
Well I have finally joined this website after reading it for the last
20 weeks! Better late than never, right? This will be my third child
and no, we don't know if we are having a boy or a girl. We have one of
each already and are excited to welcome another little one into our
home.
I am 31 weeks pregnant now and have had a very different pregnancy than
my last two! (They both had zero complications, unless you count my
daughter being born 13 days late!) With this pregnancy, I was
diagnosed with a complete placenta previa at 22 weeks but thankfully
that has resolved. A few weeks later I was in the hospital for
threatened preterm labor and have been on "modified bedrest" since
then. The midwives finally decided that I have an irritable uterus and
that has caused me to have contractions 3-5 minutes apart on multiple
occasions. Luckily, they aren't causing me to dilate, though, so they
are just an annoyance. If the contractions are allowed to continue that
close together it can put me into true preterm labor so I get to do a
lot of clock-watching and timing contractions now. I will sure have
had plenty of practice when I finally do go into labor!
Other than that, I am feeling great! Much better than I did at this
point in my last two pregnancies. My secret? I'm not doing much of
anything and I'm asleep by 8:30 every night! Of course this is by
doctor's orders and at times I resent it but overall anything is worth
keeping this baby cooking until term.
I am excited to share the rest of my experience with you and hear how
all of your births go...what a blessing to bring a new life into our
lives!
