03-4-2008 - A Girl, For Sure! HappyMy mood while writing this blog:
Happy

March 27, 2008
Today was such a great day. Bittersweet on one hand, too, though. First, I should mention that I met with a midwife yesterday about giving birth at home. We spent over an hour chatting and she's very nice and laid-back, down to earth. She's got a good, positive, earthy, spiritual vibe about her that I like. Also, her once-a-week receptionist, who is also a doula, offered me a ride home, and we talked the entire way; she's also sweet and cool. The midwife answered all of my 40 or so questions, and offered me references. Now, the decision time begins. I have to weigh the pros and cons of homebirth versus hospital.

Ok, secondly, we had our genetic consult and detailed ultrasound today. The genetic counseling went well; she was absolutely supportive of our decision to forego the amnio, and just talked to us a little bit about Trisomy 18, and how the odds are for us considering our low risk and age, which can further lower our risk.

Then, we got to see our little girl! She was being active! She was kicking and moving her arms. She was moving all around! Just Monday, the doctor said she was in a transverse position. Today, she was in a breech position. She's not head down yet, she refuses! It was lovely to have warm (for once, warm!) ultrasound gel on my abdomen. The lights were dimmed, and I got to see my Lia on the screen. I felt sleepy after a while, though. The ultrasound went on for almost an hour because they look for all kinds of details that, after a while, I don't understand and don't seem as much fun as the typical shots of her profile, hands, feet, etc. But! I stayed awake, despite the constant massaging of the ultrasound probe, the dim lights, and the bright screen. It was awesome experience. I am so in love with her, it amazes me how much happiness she brings to me already ... since I found out that I was pregnant!

So, we took the tickets off the pink clothing because they confirmed that she is, indeed, a girl! My second 3D ultrasound is Saturday, and they better confirm her gender as female, too! :o) I need as much confirmation as possible!

Well, last, the bittersweet part, is that tomorrow I am observed my AP. It was rescheduled from Wednesday so that I could prepare my kids and lesson better according to some of her suggestions at our pre-observation meeting. Wish me luck!
